Ringworm
      #163582 - 05/20/04 05:58 PM

My son got ringworm from my cat who in turn gave it to my dog, my cat was a inside outside cat, but now he has not come back home, anyway, I treated my both my dogs and I took my son to the doctor and they gave him some medicine for it, but they said to put lotramin ultra on the spot near his ear, but it will not go away, now I have it on one spot on my face, help, does anyone know what i can use that will make it go away quickly. I thought that ringworm was from being dirty or something, and then i thought how can that be since i am the cleanist neat freak possible, i use bleach on everything I clean with, but my doc told me it has nothing to do with being dirty or anything, it is something that cats get from other animals and since my cat was mostly outside all of the time and my neighbors dog had it then i knew it was from that. Anyway, can anyone give me any info on this on a treatment or lotion or something i can buy i will pay anything to get it. thanks, i feel so embarresed to write about this i hope you all do not think i am have a dirty family or something, i have never even heard about it until my son got it.

Never feel embarrassed! Ringworm is a FUNGAL infection. Like lice and scabies, it has little (if anything) to do with being "dirty" as it is an equal opportunity problem!

Yes Ringworm is a fungal infection, no different than athletes foot and such. I think you probably need a stronger topical ointment. And dont be embarasses about it, its very common.

I would like to tell you that it is VERY contagius (your doctor may have already told you this) and you need to clean anything that comes in contact with the infected area. We have no pets but we were told that it was probably contracted from another child that my nephew attends daycare with. I also use the Lotrimin or sometimes the Kroger brand. I like to keep the area covered with a band-aid after applying the medicine to keep anything from touching the area. P.S. I too am a clean freak and could not believe it had infected MY house! It can take several weeks to clear up. Good Luck!!!

If not getting better try the af brand, it worked in 3 day for my child, she had it all over her hands and legs

If you live in a sunny climate, a good dose of sunshine can help kill the fungus. OR, you can hit a tanning bed. I *think* it's the ultraviolet ray's that do the trick. My Mom said she got it from a patient once when she was working in a hospital and that's how they treated her, was with strong light's.

When I was a wrestler way back in high school, about 10 of us got ringworm from the floor and headgear. yuck!. It spreads like wildfire as you know and the above posters said it best. Dry that sucker out and keep all towels away from normal use (that you've used on the effected area) This unfortunately can last a little bit, so if you're on top of it, expect a few weeks for it to completely go away. I think your main concern is to get the cat under control and then the rest will follow. Good luck and don't worry it happens all the time. heheh If it makes you feel any better, I had about 7 areas on body and face that had it!!!

Tred =)

ps.. just to let everyone know.. I'm sparkly clean now heh

I have heard that wrestlers got it alot which was very common. The Tanning bed HMMMMMMMM I will just have to try that that is a good excuse to ask my hubby for money cause I will say that is what the DB Doc ordered , plus I might come out with a clear face a golden tan YEAH, I was picking out those white things in the middle of it every day that is why it has gotton so bad on my face, although thank god foundation covers it up, but it got painful, and my son has it in his scalp which lotrim will not work for that he was given oral meds for it. I heard bleah and sandpaper on the radio but I highly doubt I will try that, and as far as my cat goes, he has not been seen in a while, but both my dogs have been treated cause they both had it.
