what is scar tissue

my doctor found i have scar tissue in the area of my fussion and L5/S1 nerve root. how does scar tissue cause pain?????

how do they treat this meds/ surgery?????

Hi John!

Though I've never had back surgery, I'm familiar with scar tissue (adhesions) problems, all too well! It is my understanding that while the scar tissue does not, in itself, generate pain, it can press on another area of the body (containing nerves) which will cause pain.

Here are two websites that explain scar tissue and its relationship to spinal surgery. Hopefully, someone will be along to answer your question better than I have.

I feel burning tearing pain on occassion an attribute it to scar tissue tearing.
I thought erroneously that scar tissue would go away on its own. It doesn't.
Removing scar tissue sometimes helps I've heard. On the other hand, reopening the wound, removing the scar tissue, may just make more scar tissue.
