I am going back to school in the fall and I need to have a complete physical done. The school sent papers and it looks like I need to have a urinalysis done. What exactly are they looking for? Is it for drugs? I take tramadol for my low back pain, from an OP. Or is it for other reasons (some kind of sugar level maybe--I really don't know much about this)? The papers don't say anything but "Urinalysis". I would appreciate any feedback! Have a great day (or night, depending on where you are)!

Urine tests can be for almost anything. The Physician tells the lab what to test for. Probably, they are testing for disease states like diabetes or something like if you're pregnant (if you're female). They may test to see if there is any sign of illegal drug use like elevated THC levels.
If you are on prescription medications, all you have to do is bring a prescription bottle with you to confirm. There's no need to worry about that.
Yes a urinalysis can be a routine test for just about everything. When I go to the gyno, (I am a post uterine cancer patient) they do a UA along with a bunch of other tests and since I have had a hysterectomy I know its not to check for pregnancy. Entering college tho, it could be a drug test but I would think they would have said they do drug screenings upon admission.
