Hello all,
last year I got put on effexor. and the doc instead of changing the med when he did not see what he thought he should see just kept doubling the dose til in Dec 2003 I was taking 300mg. I had surgery that same month after the surgeon released me, I KNEW I was on way too much effexor.
So i cut the dosage in half, and let me tell all of you out there that think you have tried, done it, did it what ever med it is.... this stuff will put your brain in soooo much unnatural agony that you want to die and you think/try to kill yourself.
If a doc suggests this med for depression, ask for something else, there are many anti depression meds. I dont think you should give this med to anyone. It is dangerous
IMHO ofcourse

Ember,
Let me tell you that I have been on anti-depressants for about 35 years, and you will get this effect from ALL a/d if you try to stop taking them. you have to gradually cut down the dosage under the Drs. care. People do not understand the dangers of just stopping these meds. You hear so much on this board about Hydro withdrawel...you CAN NOT die from Hydro w/d, however, w/d from a/d is VERY dangerous and you can die form it...you must always confer with your Dr. when cutting back (or trying to) or stopping these meds. I am now, also on effexor and I know what you are talking about. But like I said ealier, this happens with most of the a/d that I have taken over the years, and BELIEVE me, it was a lot of different ones. Anglwink

angl,
I too, have only about 20yrs of experience with a/d's. But man, I am now taking only the smallest dose and to still have these kind of w/d from that? I took zyban for 3 yrs and quit taking it when I quit smoking and NEVER ever did I entertain ending my life. I am the strongest person I know and I guess it is because of this and support from a frighten husband that I am here this Monday. Please everyone, when doctors offer this or that, ask questions. I will never take another a/d again. take care,

ember,
i know EXACTLY what you are talking about. i cant find any other words to describe it, but unnatural as you said. iv'e been put on almost every single a/d out there and tapered off of them 4 years ago and can say that i would rather be depressed w/o a/d's than whatever word there is to describe the feeling. i vow'd to never ever take any seratonin inhibitors and have followed and going to till the day that i die.

Ember,
Glad to hear that you are sttarting to feel better!...W/D from anti depressants is one of the most awful feelings (both physically & emotionally) in the world. If you ever need to talk, please feel free to pm me...Anglwink
