I know that Vicodin ES is time released but what I would like to know is, does anyone think it works better than just Vicodin? How does Vicodin ES work...........like how often is it released into your system and how much is released at a time?
Which do you prefer?
Thanks

Vicodin ES is just extra strength (es). There is also Vicodin HP (high power).

I don't think Vicodin ES is time-released. As far as I know, it's just extra strength: 7.5 mg of hydrocodone and 750 mg. of tylenol. A regular Vicodin is 5 mg of hydro and 500 mg. of tylenol.
Does anyone know if there a time-relased version of Vicodin? Wouldn't that be something more like Oxycontin?

Ok, that would be my mistake. I don't know where I thought it was time released. It sounded great thats why I was asking about it.

There's no extended-release hydrocodone. There are many different brands and combinations of hydro and acetominophen. I don't have the links but if you look around the boards you'll find the exact details. If you're only taking one or two pills a day, maybe the combos with extra Tylenol (650 or 660 mg; and 750 mg, I think), are OK, but if you take more than that, I'd stick to maximum 500 mg of Tylenol per pill (which would be the equivalent of Lortab). Just my opinion.

Vicodin is 5/500 and Vicodin ES is 7.5/750. Vicodin HP is 10/660.

Thanks Mercedes for the comparison. I can never remember these. Does anybody think the ES (7.5 / 750) is a good medication ; I can see the HP, but the ES sound like too much Tylenol.

NO, vicodin ES is not time release. "Vicodin ES" is vicodin brand's name for 7.5/750 and ES stands for Extra Strenth.

I used to take vicodin ES, and I do think it's too much tylenol. As many have posted on here, the recommended max. per day is not more than 3,000 to 4,000 mg. More than that and you risk liver damage. Once I became aware of that risk, I switched to Norco 10/325 - 10 mg of hydrocodone and 325 mg. of tylenol. You can get name brand Norco or generic Watson. I always get the Watson generic - works great and less money than the name brand.
