I was searching for a link to an article about Eli Lilly pulling all the stops on reimportation of their drugs from Canada and found this slightly distrurbing article.

Ive never posted alink so you will probably have to cut and paste. Makes me wonder if I should be taking my own pen to any future job interviews!!

Big Brothers on his way!!
Very scarey!
Every body will be working in a gattica style enviroment eventually, by the sound of things.
Things are going to far , surely employers would have to have a warrent or something to use this and along with that a complaint on the employees standards at work?? :

I saw this on one of the news programs. They also said the companies can do it, and not violate privacy because the items the swipe is tested on is owned by the company, therefore the have the right to do what want. It's the same as emails or anything that is in the employer's building concerning office equipment, and the like. They own it, they can protect their company this way.
The said it was so sensitive it could pick opiates and other substances from phones, computer keys, mouse pads, etc, even if it's been a while. Unless the items have been washed, or cleaned. Things like phones and keyboards are not "cleaned" on a daily basis.
I'm glad I work from home, and anyway, my employer knows of my pain situation and knows I take medication for it.

One of my exact thoughts, I glad for NOW Im self employed. I have no plans for any future drug screens. I'am considering swipeing my cleaning lady as she appears to be a little loopey. Naaa heck I dont care she is the best Ive ever had, she could be on crack as long as she keeps up the good job.
In many ways 911 has caused a tainted view on tolerable practices.

There must have been a different story there when you posted the link originally. It now has a story about candidates.
If you find the original story, would you please be kind enough to post the new link so I can read it, too? Or cut and paste the text of the article into your thread?
Thanks a million!

Nightshade,
Sorry I didnt realize they changed stories so often or I would have just cut and paste.
The article spoke about a strip of paper that was designed to detect small amounts of several types of drugs that eliminate thru the pores on your face, hands, feet, legs, etc. Apparently these strips can detect the use of drugs just by swipeing it across items like a phone handset, keyboard, chair arm, the handel on a urinal, etc.
The article spoke about how cheep the strips were compared to a Best if kept off the board or blood test, and had a account of a auto dealer who susupected a employee of cocaine use. The Boss of said auto deealer, swiped an item the salesman had been using and found it posititve for narcotics. This same company now has a policy to test this man once a week by simply swipeing his forehead.
Another company was going in "after hours" and swipeing alot of items, desks, keyboards, to get a "peek" into certain employee habits.
This new tool gives companys a big advantage on detecting and eliminateing drug use among its team of workers. Its not like a urin test that can be manipulated or in many cases be completely fooled by urin flush tools, or items like synthetic urin.
I dont remember the company that makes the strips, but I believe they are out of Chicago Il, anyone can order the strips or have this company come in and test items in the office.
