Another question for Temgesic users?
      #152265 - 04/01/04 07:32 PM

While you take Temgesic if it doesn't work properly for the w/ds (meaning you still have some and end up tapering) can you still take an opiate containing med in between say here and there just to help with w/ds?

And when you came off of the temgesic, did you have w/ds from that? Also, how many pills do you need to come off the opiates?

I'm going to begin taking them on Monday (thanks to a very dear person on this board) to help and clean out my system for a while and re-evaluate my pain symptoms, so I want to make sure I have all the info.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

K

well, it isn't a good idea to take an opiate with the temgesic. i'm not sure if those pills are exactly the same as the ones that i was prescribed, but mine had an opiate blocker which made taking opiates with them a waste of money. if you don't take a pill for that day then you can take a pill at night and feel it, but why bother...
the temgesic will take away ALL w/d symptoms. the only thing that you'll be battling will be the psychological addiction. the w/d from the tems are only psychological also. and if there ARE w/d symptoms they are VERY mild. especially when compared to the w/d of opiates...

if you want to reassess the situation with your pain then i suggest not taking any opiates. you'll just be putting of the inevitable. it will make things harder for you in the long run...

good luck bear! i will have you in my prayers...

Thanks for your reply!

That makes sense. I just have a friend who the tems are not as effective as they are for others. Meaning, he still has w/ds when taking 6-8 of the tems, just not as severe. So he was taking just one T4 a day or so and that combo seemed to help, but I would think it does prolong w/ds. It's hard when you are still required to do the daily grind, etc.

My holiday starts Monday!!

Thanks,

K

I want to second this question.

From my understanding, the temgesic (buprenorphine) that is available from the IOP's is not the same as the Suboxone that some posters are referring to when they state that is has an "opiate blocker" in it.
Can someone please correct this if it is wrong, or provide accurate info????

The original question being if One was taking the temgesic from an IOP (Not the Suboxone Program); would one negate any opiate effects if for instance temgesic and hydrocodone are taken simultaneously. I realize that some will say it is a ridiculous question if the tems are being taken to avoid w/d for a holiday, but please read below:

I took the temgesic for 3-4 days.
The temgesic did not take away ALL my w/d. While I was not in pain, I could not function at all when I tried temgesic.

In October, I went cold turkey, and had the aches pains and flu like symptoms, but I functioned through them. My house was not spotless per say, and I was not very uplifting or jovial, but I got up and took care of the kids and other neccesities. When I took the tems, I could not keep my eyes open. I was so physically tired I went back and forth from the couch to the bed for almost 48 hours straight. I am not exagerating when I say I COULD NOT stay awake. It was scary!

I'm planning on trying again, but was curious if I should taper, then add the tems at the end of my taper, or just taper down, quit the hydro, then start the tems. I am waiting on a supplement to arrive (for energy), before I try the temgesic again.

B~

Alrighty then....

Here's an update on me and the Temgesic. I had geared myself up for 2 weeks to do a c/t holiday with the Temgesic. I was really ready!

Well, the temgesic seemed to make me sick as a dog! It did seem to help with the w/ds a bit, but made my breathing really depressed. I could actually hear myself breathing in and out, almost like wheezing. Figured I would give it a while to normalize, but the pain came back in FULL FORCE. It was awful. I thought I was "healed" more than I was, I suppose, but I couldn't take the pain! I made it one day. I couldn't imagine the second day (which I've heard is supposed to be the worst), so I quit the tems and went back to the hydro. Guess I'll just have to give myself more time to heal before going this route again.

Extremely bummed right now....

Well here is my update.

Day one on temgesic.
Did yard work, cleaning, playing with my toddlers.
Al in all a great day.

Day 2:
Began more yardwork, had a list of things to do. A little fatigue and leg aches, but I Was basically fine until about 2 pm.
By 3pm I was SICK and vomiting. By 7pm I was laying on the bathroom floor a heap of violently vomiting, cold sweats and aching muscles. I came very, very close to calling 911. I couldn't even hold down water. At this point I was wondering if I had gotten food poisoning...or ws this just wd???

The rest of the night was spent pretty much in bed with heating pads, soma and xanax. Changed my clothes at least 5 times due to soaking them with cold sweats.

Yesterday was day 3 and was in bed all day. No vomiting, just weakness and dizziness.

However....today is day 4 and I am about to get in the shower and hoping, no praying, I will function.

Cheers,
B~

OMG Brenda!

I got really, really sick like that with the first 2 doses and I couldn't handle it. Everyone I've spoken to has said miraculous things about this drug. Wonder if it's possible we all got a bad batch? A friend of mine was doing the Tem thing last week and had a bad reaction also.

There goes $100 down the drain that I didn't have....

Keep us posted on how you are, k?

Hugs,

K

well I got a little nervous reading these posts,I am 28hrs in,and I feel not 100% but 80%,I just cannot believe it,cause awhile back on a forced holiday,I could not move without my body feeling like lead,I could not even brush my hair it hurt lol,I had a big lunch today, and now am getting ready for a spaghetti dinner, went out shopping, did my regular routine, and feeling great,a little achey, but if I was not watching out for every little bit of sign of wds,I would say I think I am getting a cold,(not even that bad)but just not 100%,but I am just in awe of this so far, cause I know what I would feel like right now with out them,I was even ready to abort this whole thing at any sign of discomfort, but nothing so I went ahead and took my next dose. Know I am wondering if I want to even continue after reading these replies,Thought you had food poisoning, thats lovely, I took my last dose at 2pm,I might can my next dose and take the hydro instead at 8 tonite, maybe taper off the rest,I will just stick with 4 aday, for a week, then 2 for a week, then off,the whole idea of the tems was not to get sick,I cannot afford to be sick like that,to busy,I am kinda of pi**ed I even turned the comp. on lol, where did you guys order from, please don't say 247 -drugstore,anybody else get sick, before I decide to can this, and take my hydro. Were you guys at a high dose of hydro? could that of been it,I am not at a high dose, who knows please re-ply. thanks snakey. Oh and I am very sorry you were sick, hope you all are feeling better, that is why we were taking the tems.so sorry..

If YOU aren't getting sick than I don't see why you would want to follow in the footsteps of people who have had trouble with it...if it works for you then why not stick with it and taper the temgesic down as recommended, rather than mix with hydro. Many, many users seem to have had good results with the tems...just kay, brenda and I have not, unfortunately. Pinkie

Hey snakey!

You're doing great! Keep it up. I was not on a high dose of hydro when I took the tems yesterday, so I don't think that's the case with me.

Let us know how you do tomorrow. I'll be thinking about you and sending positive vibes your way!

Hey snakey....

Was wondering how you were doing?

In answer to your question, I don't know if the tems that I took came from 24-7 or click.
I ordered from click, but never got verification that the order went through...it's a long story, but they were not listed as an item click was carrying. Orawan told me to order them anyway.
Before I recieved them from click (and oddly..never was charged) I ordered from 24-7. I used some of the tems back 4 weeks ago. Then I really could not get out of bed. No pain or nausea, just complete fatigue. I caved on day 4.

So these could have been 24-7 or click as both were in blister packs with same expiration date, which I believe is August 2006. Also, they were stored in the bathroom for a week or so. THAT may have caused them to lose effect?? It's just too odd that I went the first 24 hours feeling really good, then crashed about 36 hours, got really, really bad at about 40-48 hours, and have been getting better since.

Another thing. I read the whole product info that came with them.
Part of it says:

"...in individuals on high doses of opiods, buprenorphine may precipitate abstinence effects due to its properties as a partial agonist."

I may be interpreting this wrong. To me this is saying that temgesic can 'cause' w/d symptoms in someone on high doses of opiods.
Perhaps I used too much bup and that caused my w/d symptoms to escalate or appear, where there had been none up to that point??? When I started feeling 'bad' I took more tems and that alone may have caused my bad reaction?? Also I had taken clonidine as well. Perhaps that even had something to do with it??
Last night, my hubby called me 'white face'. He was teasing me, thinking that I had on a facial mask or something. I didn't, and I wasn't feeling THAT bad at the moment. When I looked in the mirror I DID look like a corpse. I haven't taken any clonidine since.

I am sure Yawk or someone would be able to interpret or give more insight on this.

However, today was day 5 for me, I was taking higher doses of hydro than you, and am doing fine today. I did have my Mom in law taking care of the kids Monday and yesterday. But I could have functioned, was just drained and since I already 'had the flu' might as well take advantage and get rest. I was only Really Sick for about 18-24 hours, and that would be about hours 36 - 60. I only took 1 temgesic today.

For others considering the temgesic. I have taken about 30 over 5 days. So ordering 100 as I have seen some doing, may be overdoing it. Unless of course you plan on more holidays.

Cheers,
B~
