Flaming/Flame Wars
Flaming is reacting to someone's board posting or PM in a hostile manner by publicly chastising the person or bombarding the person with nasty posts or PM's. Flaming may occur to users that engage in behavior that violates what is considered proper board netiquette. A flame war occurs when two or more users flame each other in an escalating manner that threatens to continue unabated. If you notice a flame war developing just notify the moderator or adminitrator and let them handle it. Do not take part in flame wars. If you do you will be banned even if you did not start it :-)

new pain story
      #151195 - 03/28/04 03:22 PM

How's everyone doing? I'm new here.

Basically my story is, I was diagnosed with mild carpal tunnel syndrome in March 2003. In the past year the pain has increased. Partly because my job involves physical labor, and my hobbies (playing guitar) do not help my pain problem. I love my job (and I need the money) so a change of occupations is not something I want to consider. I do not have health insurance at this time, so corrective surgery is not an option. The doctors that I have seen about my problem (last year when the pain was not as bad) told me to take ibuprofin, or get a Cortisone shot. The Iboprofin did not work for me at all, and I heard more negatives than positives about Cortisone shots. I had Vicodin left over from getting my wisdom teeth out, and this got rid of my pain like nothing I've tried before.

So my next step is trying an OP for hydrocodone pain relief. I was going to try NorcoWorldWide. My problem is I'm scared I'm going to get denied. Before this post, I searched your forums for info on Carpal Tunnel patients getting pain relief from OP's and didn't find much info. Most pain patients on this board have a lot more severe problems than me, but I am only 23 years old and do not want to change my life around pain that can be controlled with medicine. I also understand that docs don't want to prescribe a 23 year old opiate pain meds. But when I have to go through a day in total pain because I slept on my hand wrong, or I have to turn the ignition key in my car with my left hand because the pain is to severe in my right hand, and........

Sorry this post is so long, but my basic question is... In the opinions of people who have used OP's (like NorcoWorldWide), with my condition will I have luck obtaining a hydro script, or am I just wasting my time?

Thanks for listining,
Kurt

By the way, I have medical records documenting my condition, but they are from March 5th 2003. It's now March 28th. Does NorcoWorldWide require the medical info to be exactly within a year old. It didn't say it had to be on their website.

NWW is very understanding of your pain, It sounds like you are a great candidate and have a very slim chance of denial. All they ask is for some sort of written proof that you are in the pain you say you are. They even have a downloadable form to print out and have filled out by a med professional if you need to. My dr would only fax me one page explaining my medical history---and he didn't go into grave details, just pretty much my diagnosis and how long he'd been seeing me, I thought I stood a chance of being rejected (24yo)...but when the dr called for my first consult is was EXTREMELY nice and didn't even really drill me on my conditions. And you also have until your first refill is due to gather your paperwork to get to them...they really are patient and a great place and like i said i highly doubt you will be turned down...by the way welcome to the board (my husband and I just joined a few days ago)...I found out about NWW thru this board

Hi Currtis...Hi Skittles...and welcome!!!

I just want to add that Norcoworldwide (NWW) would be my suggestion for you to try. They are on this site under Norcoww and you can even send them a personal message (PM) and ask them their advice on what you are asking us. You would be talking with Chris (mainly) or David. These guys and NWW are definately the top of the line and will bend over backwards to help you out.

Please, if there is anything I can help you with or answer for you, feel free to send me a PM any time.

Again Welcome!!! and Best of Luck!!!

I think that you should be fine. I have had tendonitis on both wrists at the same time and it took forever to get better, and I still have flare ups. Though this is not the exact same thing, the pain effects functions in the same way. I do not really think you should have a problem. Worst case senerio is that when you have your next flare up you may have to go to either a walk-in clininc or your local health department for some useless ibuprofren and the much needed documentation of your condition.

Thanks for the info. Just to make sure, it is 1 AM Monday, I have my consultation with NWW between 11 AM - 12 PM today. I don't need to fax them my medical records before my consult, right? They need them before my first refill. The only reason it's an issue is because I don't have a fax machine, or I would just send the fax now.

Yep, as far as I know you'll need to fax records before first refill. But, everyone is different, and that could change. You can go anywhere to have something faxed...library, post office, any little postal plus place, even a printing shop. They charge like $2 for first page faxed and $1 for additional pages. Keep us informed as to how things go for you.

Curtis, Do not worry, I have been around for a long time. Many Online Pharmacies come and go, but NWW to me and my friends and family is the best. Age does not have anything to do with suffering from pain. They are very nice, professional and understanding. Please just remember that being dependant on pain meds at such a early age, you do not want to be on them forever. They are just a bandaid until you can get the problem fixed. In time the effectiveness will decrease as you build a tolerance, and that isn't good. Be careful, use them as ordered and plan ahead so that you can fix your wrist. Also, just ask upon the consult if they will honor your records, since you are supposed to have a Dr. visit less than a year old.Take Care

Hi there Curtis, just wanted to say welcome and I am sure you will find relief soon on its way!!!!!!!!! I also use NWW and have had great results with them. Please don't belittle your own pain, yes alot of people on here probably deal with pain a bit worse than your own and there are alot of folks who probably deal with signifigantly less than your own.I feel sure they would be happy to help you,but I feel I should say alot of people think that because a certain OPs will prescribe up to a certain amt. say #120 per month, please be informed that is their ceiling amt.meaning that is the most they can prescribe I would venture to say most do get prescribed that amount if their records warrant that.I just see people who get very angry when they are only prescribed say 90#,I am not saying I think that will happen to you just that it is good to know all facts up front. Also some OPs have a ceiling of say 90# but they may offer 1 refill more than another,it might pay to read alot of the posts and see which OP you might be most comfortable with.NWW seems to be getting the best consistent FB at the moment though. If I can help ,happy to.......good luck and feel well!!!!!!!!!!!Wren'

Harley,
Regarding the age of the medical records, do they let you know if in fact they are too old after you have faxed them or does one find out when they try to get their first refill?

well..... I just had my consult. It went smooth as silk. I will get my meds (120 Norco's) overnighted to me.

Mapleseep:
I asked how recent the medical records had to be, and it seemed to me that records anymore than a year old could be a problem.

I'll post tomorrow to let everyone know if my meds come on time. So far I'm impressed with NWW, and the helpfullness of this message board. Thank You.

Curtis, not to be a downer, but I only have one piece of wisdom to offer. It's very easy to become dependent on Vicodin. Take it only when you need it- you'll be surprised at how quickly you may go from needing only 1 norco to rid yourself of pain to needing 3 norco to rid yourself of pain. It's not that the pain is getting more severe, it's the psychosomatic need for the drug. I'm not trying to pass judgement upon anybody and hope that it doesn't come across that way- this is my own personal experience I'm speaking from and if you read the threads where people are trying to "taper down" or quit- it becomes increasingly more difficult the longer you're taking the medication as well as the more medication you begin taking.

Hopefully just sharing a piece of information that is helpful,
Greycie

Greycie:
Thank you for your concern. Information like yours will definetly help me keep my eyes open to the negative effects of opiates for pain managment. But if the tightrope between pain, tolerance, and addiction is something I have to walk to live a comfortable life, than so be it.

Currtis,

It sounds as though you may be wise well beyond your years. However, Greycie brings up a very, very valid point. I have been taking Lortab for chronic pain for almost 20 years off and on. I worries me what I must be doing to my liver and my body overall....but, until all of these "specialists" can figure out what is the source of the pain/pains I am left with only two choices: Live with the debilitating, daily pain or treat it as responsibly as I can until a cure is found. I actually think that the docs are as close as they have ever been to "curing" me, but until then, I too will walk the tightrope on a daily basis.

What you have to remember, is that we are all here to support you and your needs to the best of our ability and not judge you, your age or your need to treat your pain. Some of us that have been on opiate pain therapy for many years can sometimes give you valuable insight that can only be discovered in time. So, take our advise and information for what it is worth. Only you can make the best decisions for your own body. Greycie makes a very valid point that you will see repeated over and over on this board.

Please take care of yourself and monitor your pain and pain therapy responsibly. I wish you the very best and I do hope that you find relief very soon.

A life that is lived in pain, has no quality of life to be lived...

My meds came today (20 hours after my consult). I am 100% pleased with my NWW experience.
