Has anyone had luck with taking an anti steroidal inflammation med for discomfort and pain from arthritis or bone spurring? If so, which med? I'd love to hear your info! Thanks, night shade for your PM's. It was greatly appreciated!

Even though I shared this info with Booker in a PM, I thought I'd add it to a post so others could possibly benefit.
DICLOFENAC has been a terrific NSAID because it is used for osteoarthristis pain and is much gentler on the stomach than most NSAIDs. Has been a life-saver for my multiple foot and ankle bone spurs.

I have a doctor appointment with my family doctor tomorrow. I will talk to him about diclofenac and my bone spurs as well as determine if I do have arthritis (which I already know!). Right now I just want to cry I am so tired of just aching all the time! But, I'm not "going there". I hope that something will work for me as taking a pain med only takes the edge off and isn't where I want to be at this time in my life. Thanks for all and any information and will keep you up to date on my apt. tomorrow if you pm me!

Night Shade - THANK YOU for the information on that medication. I shared somewhere on the board that because of continual usage of anti-inflams after my first child was born I am unable to take them any more. I had been on Vioxx and Celebrex (not at the same time) for many years and it did help, however minimally. My insurance company has began a new policy where all patients need to start anew with a "normal" anti-inflams, and when they fail at several different ones they'll consider allowing you to start taking the Cox II meds again.
PLEASE PM me information about the drug you mention, I'm very interested in finding something to help my arthritis.

Here is the prescribing info for diclofenac (brand name Cataflam)
And the prescribing info for the combination of diclofenac and misoprostol (brand name Arthrotec)
I take Arthrotec, which has the stomach-protecting factor. It should never be used by women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant!

ok. Well, we took an xray of my hand. The bones look really great. IF there is osteoarthritis that is causing the pain, it is in between the carpal bones which cannot be seen on the xray. It is a possiblity that is what is causing the pain. However, from maniuplating the hand and checking muscles, tendons, ligaments, my doctor feels that it may also be a torn ligament that is causing the pain. I had a fall down the stairway awhile back and it is haunting me in many ways and I could have done something to my hand without realizing it at that time. Anyway, I have a removeable hand brace now, much like a heavily padded weight lifting glove, to keep that area from moving as the only help for a torn ligament is TIME and Rest. My hubby is a physiologist and he agrees completely with this assessment. Also, in the even it may be the beginning of osteoarthritis my doctor has asked me to try to take Glucosamine-Chordroitin-MSM as it is known to rehabilitate cartilage and reduce the progress of osteoarthritis and lessen pain. He said to start taking it and wear the brace and to call in to him in a few weeks with an update on my hand. My sister has a health food store and has 20 years of experience in vitamins, herbs, chinese medicine, etc. She recommended what she considers the best brand and I have it on order. So, we shall see!
Now, on to my shoulder. Yep, he said it is much more "crunchier" in there although I have 100% range of motion. It is obvious I have stuff building and possibly floating around in my shoulder area. He has gotten me in to see another doctor next Thursday to see about an MRI and go from there, perhaps orthoscopic surgery where they use two small holes, one for the camera and the other to shave, repair and take out whatever or find a torn ligament or anything causing an impingement. I may also have damage to ligament in the area, hence an MRI to look at the soft tissue in the area as I've had the xray thing done. So, I will see what this Dr. has to say next week, have an MRI and take it from there. The Glucosamine would also be of benefit to the shoulder area as well if it works.
He asked if I needed anything for pain, especially for bedtime when it keeps me from getting a good night's sleep and I declined as I have some on hand (which I didn't mention!)
So, that is where I am for now. Whewwww, I don't think I missed anything for ya'll!
Gee, any comments?

Booker sounds like you're doctor is on the ball - even offered you pain meds? That's a switch! Let us know what the MRI shows and hope that Glucosamine-Chordroitin-MSM works well for both of your ailments. My father in law takes the stuff and swears by it! Please keep us updated on your condition, and sending best wishes and hugs your way!

An update of sorts. I saw the orthopedic doctor yesterday and an MRI is scheduled for tomorrow (Sat) I will meet with the doctor April 5 to discuss what the MRI shows. I am very happy about the MRI to see if anything else is going on in there other than degenerative bone spurring!
