I have been referred to a pain doc!!!! This will be the second clinic I have gone to. The first one the PMD was always yelling at his staff and when he saw me he just gave me a few vics and set me up for 1st a epidural then for a procedure which I cant spell correctly. Well I did not want to see him in the am then that pm get an epidural W/O him at least looking my records and MRIs. I had a lumbar fusion that has led to chronic low back shooting pain
I literally begged another PMD who I had worked with professionally. The PMD went to bat with my insurance company and got me special clearance to see him ( the ins co said I can only see him not the PA or the other Doc). The pa who I spoke to said that the never give pain rxs on first visits.
Before my surgery I was oxycontin and oxycodone for BT. I was on the regime for 4 moths before surgery so I got a very high tolerance. Prior to the neck problem I was on vicoprophen average 4 to 6 tablets day.
I am currently on a tapper/holiday from oxy. And I just had back surgery 1 month ago. I am still in a lot of pain. The surgeon will not give me more saying 1 oxy 3x day is enough.
Do you all think the PMD will script me anything because I still have a lot of surgical pain and it has aggravated my low back pain??? How should I talk to the doc?? This is my last and only option. As all the other docs are now saying you are under the surgeons care and dont want to step on the surgeons toes??
Thanks for advice

Be honest and straight forward about your pain. You will fill out paperwork describing your pain and rating it.
Be open to all new meds the doc wants to try. Narcotics are not usually the first med any doctor chooses, however they will end up rxing it when other things do not work completely or well enough to mitigate your pain.
You know what works, it is okay to be honest, and it is in your best interest imo. Do not however come across as demanding nor inflexible.
Unfortunately... injections are often suggested in the beginning. Remember you are building a relationship of mutual trust here with your doctor.
If your doctor does not listen to you or seems incapable of compassion in your case move on.
Otherwise be patient and I think it will work out well for you over time.

Or just a pain in the butt?!
Well it was my first visit with the PMD. it was a through visit. the PMD aggreed that I am a chronic pain pt. the PMD proscribed Zanaflex and keppa.
the PMD will proscribe pain meds when they jave ALL of my records. The don't accept pt deliverad type so when they recieve my other records I can hope
I told the PMD that I feel my pain is not treated and I am undertreated. the PMD looked over what rrecords I brought and agreed that I am undertreated (with that I was hoping to be rxd something for pain) but was not.
IMO I am on the right track but not there yet

John, that is good news. And you are establishing a relationship. That relationship if a good one should be protected by you. It is really unfortunate that the CPer has the onus of proving they are legit.
