Predinsone & Hydro together

Does anyone know if it is not a good thing to take hydro and then 40 mg of prednisone a day for 5 days?

Hi Booker, last month my neurologist prescribed me the prednisone and hydro to be taken together.I was taking something called Medrol,I believe that was the prednisone it was in a starter pack I think its called,it started me off on very high mg. per day and then decreased each day.I am not sure if that is your question whether they can be taken together but I would assume that yes they can. Although I had to quit after 2 days,I broke out in like a sunburn from it and itching and they said I could discontinue. It was not from the combination but just a prednisone side affect.I am not sure if this helped or not but for what its worth! take care WREN'

I had an allergic reaction to NSAIDS last year and was prescribed 40mg of prednisone for 5 days and my doc said it was fine to take it with the hydro. I did, and had no problems.

Yes, dear, you were of help. A while back the doctor gave me 6 days of prednisone of 40 mg each day. I felt wonderful, my shoulder didn't hurt, my hand didn't hurt, I didn't ache. But then, when after the 6th day I went right back to the same. Hydro just cuts the top of the pain and miserable feeling. I have read here somewhere that some do take prednisone on a short term basis from time to time. I would never take it long term, no way! I just wanted to cry last night and this morning so I decided to take the prednisone (my dog takes it and the doc said it is the same thing and less expensive) so I refilled her meds - NO, she will still get her meds I am not taking any away from her!) and took one today thinking I'd do it for 5 days like the doctor had me do last year. I have, I hope, relief in sight next week seeing an orthopeadic surgeon to get hopefully an MRI and see what the heck is really going on in my shoulder. You'd cringe if you'd feel it as I move it. And, you can even hear it crackle when I move it! Anyway, I wasn't taking anything for pain other than Advil (no it didn't help) when I took the prednisone last year so I just got a bit wonky wondering if there may be a problem taking both now. Thanks for your reply and welcome any more info from ya'll out there!

booker, I have taken corticosteroids(such as prednisone) many times, for various conditions, in the past and am actually currently having to take solumedrol> the same as the Medrol dose pack that someone else posted about above along with hydrocodone with no ill effects. My PCP has prescribed these in combination together several times and while there is a high risk of side effects associated with prednisone, it is more so with long term use and not just the occasional need for it. There are some people that can not tolerate it, but to answer your question- it is safe to take with hydrocodone for 5 days. Sorry this was so long, but I hope it helped to calm your fears of a medication reaction. Good Luck.
WISHING you and all a PEACEFUL and PAIN- FREE DAY!!
