I have had TMJ for years that cause some moderate pain and sometimes sever head aches.
Well my wife started NWW a month or so ago and they have been great. She has a genetic dejenitive problem in her lower back and arthritis of her back and knee, lots of problems for such a young person huh? Anyway she is like a new person and there customer service and physicians are very helpful, understanding and professional.
Anyway my problem is I can not tolerate any strong pain medication. I was given Hydrocodone years ago for the pain and more recently when I had a wisdom tooth pulled. I just simply do not like the way the makes me feel so that is not an option. I was prescribed Percicet before as well and that stuff really didnt agree with me either, they both kind of put me into a panic attack for some reason, last time I took them all I was thinking is I would rather be in pain then feel like this again. My wife and others have said they work better then anything they have tried with no side effects, I am prone to anxiety attacks so maybe thats my problem, but like I said for me that is not an option.
So I basically am looking at Vioxx, Ultram, Alive and Advil.
Right now 800-1000mg of Advil 4 or 5 times a day on days I need them works pretty well but I have heard it can be pretty hard on the body at that dosage over time.
Tylenol takes that edge of the pain but at around 1500-2000mg 4-5 times a day and I dont like taking that much acetaminophen so I dont ever use it.
OTC Alive doesnt do much but maybe the prescription type will?
Vioxx didnt work in the past but I am considering giving it another try.
Doctor offered my Ultram but I have heard it gives you a similar type of feeling to Hydro and Oxycodone so I refused it. But on the other hand I also heard it is milder and may even have anti anxiety properties to it? Not sure if I should give it a try, I may try it sence the worst that can happen is I have a few hours of feeling crappy liker I did with the other strong pain meds then never take it again or maybe (hopefully) it will work well for me. Anyone ever try this stuff?

I take it on a regular basis. It works great for me as far as potentiating the opiate meds I take, but by itself it is definitely not as strong as hydrocodone or oxycodone. If the Naproxin Sodium is working for you, I would suspect that Ultram would also. I'm not a Dr., not even close, so take this with a grain of salt. It won't be as hard on your stomach as all the Aleive you're taking, but there is a certain "euphoria" that you could possibly have while taking it. It is different from hydro or oxy in that it wouldn't be nearly as pronounced, but it is more of an "energetic" type feeling that might be a problem for you since you get a panic attack of sorts from the other two. At low doses, like 50- 100 mg's, it may work really good for you, but some people swear that it is completely useless for pain of any type. I guess the only way to know for sure is to try just one tablet from your Dr. I'm sure he has samples of it. Good luck!

Ultrum works very differently than hydro. It's acts very similar to a SSRI type medication (anti-depressant), but can be very effective for pain. Dependance is an issue with ultram, don't let anyone tell you differently, but if you take it as directed and wean off of it you should be fine.
To get a RX strength of aleve, simply take two.

Thank you for the help. I think I will try it and see how it goes. As long as I feel clear headed Ill stick with it. I am not concerned with an energetic feeling as I used ephedrine in the past for many years before my workouts with know problems. I know the anxiety I got from the other meds was in my head sence I started feeling anxious as soon as I took the pill but regardless if it is real or in my head I just cant deal with it. I'll give this a shot if it seems to work OK Ill use it if not I'll stick with the OTC stuff for now. I am not concerned about addiction to Ultram because luckily, un-like my wife and probably most here on the board I only need it a couple days a week, the majority of the time the pain is tolerable with no meds.
Talk to ya all later, thanks again for the help, this board has been a great help for my wife and I.

Hydro with Xanax, I really appreciate the suggestion, maybe as a last resort down the road. Hopefully the ultram will work for me, I will let you all know. I am going to see the doc tomorrow AM.
Thanks everyone
