i'm assuming you mean oral. the route of admin is very significant for morphine, codeine, hydromorphone, and nalbuphine ... in different ways. oh. bioavailability of Temgesic and Suboxone is only about half that of Buprenex taken as designed.

I didn't specify oral vs IV/IM...taht would also be part of the choice. Besides Nubain doesn't come in oral form.
Yep, forgot Tramadol--sorry Tone! It's the new way that DB makes you set up polls now that you have to think of everything BEFORE you start!

Tramadol does absoluetly nothing for any pain I have. All it does do is relax me after about an hour and actually appears to help with anxiety and depression. As tone mentioned to me it does that for him too.
For pain, hydro works the best for me. Not sure I ever had oxy, though I may have after a hernia and knee operation. Don't remember what I was given, but it worked well. Codeine does diddly too, though sometimes it helps with a migraine. But nothing for knee, back or kidney stone pain. Darvon helps too, and seems easier to get for some reason.

After delivering my son via c-section, the first few days I was given oxycodone every four hours and it knocked out the pain! When I was discharged I was given Darvocet which worked well since the pain had decreased after four days. Both were great meds. Darvocet was a great painkiller being a new mom...didn't make me loopy at all but worked for the pain.

I had 2 c-sections and complications after both. I was taking percodan after both for about 2 weeks (1st one), 4 weeks (2nd) one. I got more relief from the percodan than I did from percocet which is what the doc's want to order these days. This was over 17 years ago and it was more widely used then. The best pain relief I got was with IV Demerol after surgery via a PCA pump. Unfortunately, they won't discharge you home on this med. LOL. turcica
