My husband went to the dr. yesterday and he gave him samples of Gabitril (tiagabine hci) said it would help him sleeep. I have never heard of it b4 and all i could find out about it is that it is an anti seizure medicine (that was why i was looking for a drug reference yesterday) i haven't had a chance to look at those websites yet but has anyone ever heard of this med b4? even on the little fact sheet in the box it doesn't say anything about using it for sleep. Only says used to treat epilepsy. I'm afraid the dr. gave him the wrong samples. He hasn't took any yet he is waiting until i find more info on it b4 he tries it.
It sounds to me like your Dr is useing your husband as a guini pig, from what i have read its for partial seizures and nothing else, of course and whatever your dr wants to use it for.
I found this page on google:
Gabitril
This is from Medline: Medline
It seems it is an anticonvulsant.
Like Neurontin, Zonegran and a few others that are now being used on CPers. It is off label use.
I've read they may help some people that suffer pain as a result of nerve damage or nerve involvement.
It does seem though that they are being rx'd for chronic pain in general without regard to etiology.

Or just a pain in the butt?!
I tried this med as an antiseizure med and to help with migraines. I failed horribly. I got so dizzy I almost passed out on day 2. I was just starting to build up to my dosage too, didn't even have full dose in system. Hopefully, that is just me, I seem to be very sensitive to the anti seizure meds which I now need permanently since I'm prone to seizures according to the EEG.
A side effect of a lot of the anti seizure meds I have tried (all of them) is increased sleepiness while you get used to the drug.
