I find that xanax works much better for anxiety and insomnia than klonopin does. Does anyone else feel this way?

Yes, I would agree with that. Plus, it seemed to take higher dosing of the Klonopin for extended use than Xanax.

Speaking of which....can anyone out there recomend a good site for alzopram or xanax? The site I've used in the past was fine except it took a alot longer than expected and was very expensive.
I'd like to see if I can get a better price with a quick reputable company.
any advise?

xanax metabolizes fast, hits harder, and has a shorter half life
if i want my depression to be worse, my anxiety not helped, and to be tortured by horrible sedating drugs that would suck all my life and vigor out of me and cause me sedative suffering, then i take xanax or benzos

tone, I've got to agree with you there. And here I am on benzo's and trying to taper. It's hell, and my real life doctor has been prescribing Xanax 3x daily for me for years now. I know it's up to me to use my noggin, so I'm switching to Diazepam and then slowly weaning to avoid withdrawals.
I know some say that they are a miracle for them, but for my individualzed case, relaxation, meditation, exercise and counting to 10 slowly is another alternative and doesn't leave me with horrendous feelings. I just wish I could cut these loose. I know Prof. Heather Ashton has a tapering schedule, but I would LOVE to live my life free of benzo's. (and I'm not saying that everyone shouldn't have access or use them when they really need to, but for ME, I just cannot do this any longer).

Klonopin for sure! It has a MUCH longer half life - and doesn't have that "buzz" that X has. Xanax WDs are the worst, the pits, absolutely hell on earth.
If you must use benzos (for hydro WD, anxiety or whatever), please take someone's advice who's used both and go with the K. Take care! L

tone you are right on the money there. i am using a low dose of klonopin right now, and my pcp and i have agreed to taper off within 30 days. he tried to tell me xanaz is soo safe adn tried to give me that and valium, but after reading experiences on this board, xanax is a nighmare, and valium i know for a fact is very addicting. it sneaks up on you and before you know it rehab time. the pcp says klonopin is the least addicting of the benzos, true or just telling me what i want to hear. i am on 5mg 4x day and there is no "buzz" which is fine it works well with my blood pressure medicine. klonopin would be my choice of the above
carol
i want to add klonapin is not nearly as sedating but it gives a steady amount of medicine in your system and it will calm you down, its not going to be like instant feelings of peace like valium or xanax but klonipin does work if you take it correctly. like if you can not feel the first pill wait your time and take the 2nd. i have taken both xanax and valium and if not tapered properly they become a nightmare. benzos should be taken with much respect becuz before you know it you cant stop taking them without severe rebound anxiety and just a freak out feeling. its not like stoppping hydros going thru wds and going on your merry way. benzos are they obly drug i truly do fear if not taken correctly and tapered correctly. just my experience

Unfortunately, eventually you'll have to take more & more Xanax to get the desired effect. Then the fun starts. Your personality takes a drastic turn for the worse. As I said previously, Xanax WD makes any other WD seem like a day at the beach - seriously! And it goes on and on and on. It took me 6 months of tapering to get off of them which you eventually will have to do. Oh, and possible seizures are another dandy side effect if you taper too quickly.
Please be careful - there are alternatives for insomnia. Take care!

laguna - if you don't mind sharing, how much were you taking a day when you decided to taper? I have been taking usually 1 1/2 to 2mg xanax/day for almost a year. I have also been taking 10mg valium at night for sleep. Only on two occasions have I gone over 2mg xanax, once 2.5 and the other 3mg. I have read the taper schedule, but I have a problem. I have to get off these quick. I recently signed a narcotic management contract with a pain medicine doc (severe back pain, one failed surgery), and I can be required to have blood or urine tested at anytime. The half-life of valium doesn't make it a very viable option. I did start the taper Monday - I was at the equivalent of 50 mg Sunday (if I took 2mg x/day with the v at night), dropped to 35 Mon. and Tues., 30 on Wed, 20 on Thursday, and 15 on Friday. Today will probably be 20, then hopefully back to 15 tomorrow and down. I realize this is a fast taper schedule, but... I am hoping that I don't have any wd's. I am getting off this not only because of the contract - but because I want too. I am very tired of being dependent on my pain medication and this too. I only got into this because of anxiety/stress about my back and the stress the pain has caused in my relationship with my husband. I am on a duragesic patch, and use hydrocodone for breakthru pain. The patch does not hold me for 72 hours, and I finally got approval to change it every 48 hours. During acute episodes, (I tear the annulus in the disc every 8-9 months), I have to go up to the 75 patch, and take 6-8 hydros to just get through the day, and get two epidurals. Then I am out of acute, back to chronic. Well, I just tapered off the 6-8 hydros, and after two months on the 75, went back to the 50, and have only taken 2 5/500's when I forgot to change the patch after 8 days without any. I had no wd's getting off the hydro, but still have a feeling of lethargy, some mental tugging (take just one and you will feel better) and fighting the pain, and I know the xanax is contributing to this a lot, so I want to get off. The lethargy especially.
Do you think my tapering thus far is too quick? I just realized the half-life of valium can be up to 200 hours, 8 1/3 days, but Ashton also says it can still be detected up to 30 days in a blood test. I see this doctor on March 18th - 13 days from now. I don't think she will require any test, but I really don't know, and I want to get this Best if kept off the board out of my system anyway. I agree about the personality too - and, I initally had been prescribed .5 the year before - for anxiety attacks. So, of course I really liked the results, and started getting it on my own - and increased to usually 2 mg's day.
I agree with laguna and others - don't even start this junk!!!! Exercise, diet, meditation, deep breathing and counting to 10 are helping me.

Sounds like a few pages from my life-story. Xanax w/d can be bad beyond description depending on a person's body chemistry, size of dose & length of use. I've cold-turkeyed both valium & xanax after a VERY quick taper (don't you hate when a pharm takes your money and runs (hello speedrx? curepharma? libsol?) leaving you with a tolerance and no quick source of help other than a very expen$ive US doc consult where you'll get 30 10 mg Vs for $125......
So far, clonazepam has been very good to me. I've been on and off benzos for so long that there's no buzz-effect to be had, it's just a nice calming med that keeps my often-schizo personality in check..
