abortion drug.......
      #138935 - 02/18/04 08:30 PM

i havent found any subjects on this board...
i hope its not too off topic, (i believe its not)
though i know its a touchy subject...
but are there any sympathetic OP doctors in the
states that would/could prescribe
for mifeprx (ru-486) and misopostol?
(as in overnight meds!)
our doctor doesnt have any appointments available
in the next 2 weeks and it is imperitive that
we get it by then.
nobody wants a surgical abortion.
this is not to start a moral debate,
we need help, if you have nothing positive to write,
please keep it to yourself, or tell someone who cares..
i dont care to subscribe
to others opions and proposed moralities
its now 7 weeks and we're cutting it close.
thanks to any compassionate and understanding folks.

I don't know if this is a possibility, but have you tried contacting Planned Parenthood in your area? Since time is not on your side in this situation, I would think it would be in your best interest to contact someone local to where you live for the quickest service. Did you tell your doctor's office why you need to be seen? It seems that they could work you in sooner than 2 weeks in your situation. Maybe thay have a physician assistant or nurse practitioner that could see you???? Or perhaps a new doctors office is in order if you can't be seen sooner.
I wish you luck in your search.

I thought a law was passed recently (could just be my state) that you could get it from a pharmacist.

((hugs)) or ((gentle pats)) to you!

Hi - I'm sorry I can't help you with locating the meds online that you need but I wanted to mention that doctors & clinics require patients who have received those meds to come in for a follow up visit. Although uncommon, in many instances the desired result was not completely achieved with the meds, leaving open the possibility & probability of serious health risks to the patient both short term & long term. If left unchecked, future fertility may be completely compromised & far more serious health problems requiring surgical intervention may occur.

I realize that this must be a very frightening time for the parties involved...my post has absolutely nothing to do with any moral issues as I'm pro-choice but has everything to do with the safety & well-being of the patient.

Please feel free to PM me if you'd like & I wish you the best.

zoecece, I think perhaps you might have confused the "morning after" pill (that can only successfully be used within 72 hours of possible conception) with RU-486, a med to terminate a definitive first-term pregnancy without surgical intervention.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood your post.

No, you certainly didn't misunderstand me, and I think you are correct. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm sorry I've never heard of that drug being prescribed online. I think planned parenthood would be your best bet. When I was a teenager wanting birthcontrol pills I went there and it was just a walk-in clinic and they saw you then and there and took care of you.

I wish you the best and I know your decision must be a difficult one so absolutely no judgments here.

Kayleigh

Hello:

I have had luck with NetPain in the past getting a same-day consult . You might give them a try...

By the same token, a free phone call to Planned Parenthood may be your best bet.

Please let me know what you find out - please pm if you'd like.

Indeed - I'm sure you're going through a very difficult time. Hang in there...

thanks for all the input,,
thing is that planned parenthood is who we
went to and they told us that they
dont have any appointments available
in the next 2 weeks! what kinda Best if kept off the board is that!
you'd think they'd stay open for an extra
half hour for someone in this position
but....guess not, they did give us some other
people to try, i only hope its on a sliding scale
(which in this case planned parenthood DOESNT
do a sliding scale!) think we just solved the
problem though.... thank you all again

This is not an easy to get med. It is prescribed at abortion clinics and its cost is around $700 to $900 dollars. The ru-486 is a combination of mifepristone and misoprostol. The reason no walk in clinic prescribes this is because the procedure takes various steps. You have to take the mifepristone first at the clinic (which stops pregnancy) then you go home and within 24 to 72 hrs take the misoprostol by mouth and vaginally (which causes uterine contractions) and then miscarriage occurs between 6hrs to 8hrs and then in about two weeks go back and have an ultrasound and doctors visit. If after taking the misoprostol you fail to have a miscarriage you might have to have a surgical abortion. So it takes many visits and no walk in clinic will do that.
Please, feel free to PM me.

I misunderstood too. Posted my reply that's unnecessary on the VIP side. Oh, well, at least you know you're not alone.

I have to agree with angi on this one. These aren't medications I would use to self-medicate. The potential for complications are severe and the usage is complicated.
This isn't meant to be a preachy post, just wanted to show my concern for your health and well-being.
good luck

I am very familar with this medication and just asked the same question in a differnt form I was needing to know a pharmacy that I could get this medication from fast. There are several IOP's that do sell this medication. Misoprostol (cytotec) was not originally set out to be an early abortion drug. It was to prevent stomach ulcers. Therefore, OP's sell this drug for that reason. You will also need to order Methotrexate to be taken first. Which was a medication origanally to treat different types of cancer. But, it also stops the hormone growth that is needed to sustain a pregnancy. These medications could be taken at home, but you do need to be WELL informed on what to take and what to expect. When you go to the clinic you will just have an exam to determine how far along you are. You must know that you are under 7 weeks. Some clinics will let you go to 8 weeks because new studies have shown it is still effective. I worked in abortion clinics for a couple of years and I do recommend using this medication as soon as possible 4 or 5 weeks is best. Just because of the pain involved and for many it can be severe. Alot more severe than having a surgical abortion. I completely understand why you would feel more comfortable choosing a medical abortion, but when you have a surgical abortion it is cheaper is most cases, you can be put to sleep, or be awake and sedated, there is mild to severe cramping that last no more than 5 minutes then in about 20 minutes you feel pretty much back to normal unless you were put under general anesthesia then you will be tired for a good part of the day. With the abortion by pill. You should take the methotrexate on the first day either injected, put in juice, or by pill. Then on the third day preferably when you go to bed insert the misoprostol tablets 800 mill. into your vagina and lay in the bed and don't get up. Take some pain medicine. Hydrocodone is ususally prescribed or codeine. I would take a sleeping pill as well or muscle relaxer if available. Then try to go to sleep and hope you will sleep through it and wake up on your period. More than likely you will wake up cramping maybe extremely bad. You will see A great deal of blood that is normal. You will be cramping and be nauseaus probably. Don't be afraid to get up and use the bathroom after then the pills are disolved. This experience can be very painful for hours and hours. Be sure to get a hold of some pain medicine. The bad thing about planned parenthood is they tell you to take some motrin and don't prescribe any strong meds. A good clinic to use is " A preffered Womens Health Center" If you need the number PM me. They have offices in a around the us and the cost is 450.00.

There are websites that sell the drugs, but you must look up Methotrexate and Misoprostol (Cytotec). I am in the process of trying to find a us op that carries it but www.1drugs.us/drugs/cytotec.html and www.1drugs.us/drugs/methotrexate.html. If you do this on your own then if you run a high fever or completely go through 2 menstrual pads in 30 minutes you need to go to the ER immediately and tell them what you have taken also do NOT be alone during the day you do this. And have your favorite foods and drinks in your house to make you more comfortable. I wish you the best of luck and I do not judge you at all for your decision. You know what is best for you and don't let anyone tell you any different. And not to preach, but right after make an appt and get on a very effective birth control option so you never have to experience this again. Depo Provera works really great for some and can stop your period while your on it. Now, that sounds like a winner!

Blessed Be!
