Very good question oldandwise. I would like to know this as well. I live in Wash. State and we have nothing in the way of O.P.'s on the west coast.

wonder if it has to do with so many old people and retired living in florida , and alot of them may have to be forced to use OP's for pain since their dr.s may not help them. i don't know just a thought. karib

I have to comment here, I lived in florida for a little while and the Dr's are very compassionate and understanding and they give meds without a problem, there is also no triplicate form when prescribing percocets or oxy...
I was seeing a very nice Doctor, had to move and there are NONE in NY, trust me!
You are very lucky to find a Dr. here who gives out Narcotics, let alone Percs

No more so here than anywhere else. If so, show me some statistics!

Well, I currently live in FL and those compassionate, understanding docs must have all moved out of state, since all they're good for now is Celebrex and Ultram. And, yes, triplicate forms are the rule here too. Some docs, even use triplicates for stuff like blood pressure meds and a copy of the script goes into your chart.

Really????
I was there about 6 months ago and my boyfriend used to get percs like it was candy? The law has changed in that short of a time?

This may be totally off the mark -
I am sure there are lots of reasons - but one thing I have noticed is that there seems to be an abundance of pharmacies that specialize in compounded pain medications, and pain medications in general - in FL, also just alot of independent pharmacies in general, more-so than some other states where chain-pharmacies are all you can find, at least. And I imagine this is partly due to the fact that there is a large elderly/retired population in FL - therefore the need for more pain care and more pharmacies that specialize in pain medication and compounded/special-order type pain medications.... ? Like I said, I could be way off - and there are probably ALOT of reasons, but I would think this would at least be *part* of the puzzle?

Zeus, I thought the same thing. More elderly therefore more need for medicines of all kinds. I've been curious about this myself, and would like to know if that is the reason.

Hmmmmmm... I think I know the answer to this:
The GOP needs Rush Limbaugh.
George Bush, our current president, needs Rush Limbaugh.
Jeb Bush, brother of George Bush, needs Rush Limbaugh.
Rush Limbaugh lives in Florida and has an opinionated radio talk show with a republican conservative right wing agenda.
Rush Limbaugh needs elephant sized narcotic pills to feed his codiene addiction.
Jeb Bush, governor of Florida, makes sure the laws are relaxed on the prescribing and dispensing of narcotic meds.
Just kidding
But it does make you wonder..

Good post! I wouldn't have even had added the "just kidding." Let's not forget Katherine Harris and the Florida Supreme Court - I'm sure they're involved somehow
