I am taking a holiday from Norco for a few reasons, my pain from chondritis has subsided lately and my tolerance has gone up. I do have ultram in my possession and I have tapered for 4 days. Will this help alone w/o the use of anything else and how much? My most untolerable side effect is achy legs. Any input will help. Thanks in advance!!!

how much have you tapered down to,I think, correct me if I am wrong anyone,it depends how much you take a day.if you are not taking alot it works,if you take alot like 8-10 aday you will have some wds,not as bad as ct though. I am thinking of it myself, just to take a break for a month,I have been at 4 aday for sometime now,but I was up there a year ago and the ultram did help, but I did it to get my tolerance down, this time I am going to stop awhile,so if you are not taking alot you should be ok,it does help. good luck.

Thank you both. I have tapered from 6-7 a day down to two then nothing yesterday and today....Just Ultram..5 a day. I feel just ok, except my thigh. It aches pretty bad. I am sticking it out though for at least a week.

Ultram and Hydrocodone have a cross tolerance and are both opioids. if you really want to get rid of your tolerance, you cant take either and must go through more withdrawl.
after i started taking ultram, i once took hydrocodone and it was way disappointing and weak, because of cross tolerance

Tone's experience was exactly like mine. I was taking Ultram for about 2.5 weeks, and went back to Hydro, and my tolerance did not go down AT ALL. I think only the weaker opiates can help in that regard.
Also, I've noticed if I take buprenorphine, I automatically lower my dosage over a period of 1 week and then can stop (the pain is still there, but I use OTC meds to help) without any side effects. If I go longer than that, then my body has become accustomed to bupe, and I have to go through w/d's with that. Bupe is a miracle, and I cannot understand why more doctors cannot help people with the pain killing effects of this. I know it's used for opiate dependancy, but there are people like chronic pain patients (like us on board) who could use this for pain management and not suffer in the a.m. and feel completely normal instead of sick almost all of the time (which hydro really does to me for some reason). Also, bupe is a long acting med, which allows for more time between dosing. I was able to obtain this med for awhile, but it looks like now it's not available because of U.S. crackdowns.
