I am sorry you are scared. I am wishing the best for you and I know you must get better that you are doing now. This sounds like a tough surgery. Take care and give us a report on how you are doing when you return.

Just wanted to wish you the best with your surgery and let you know I had my C5C6C7 fusion with plates and three screws three months ago and although I was scared at first, it turned out to be the easier surgery I had so far...Woke up painfree and other than a little sore throat for a couple days, everything else was very little recovery pain. Again take care John and stock up on some of your favorite Ice-Cream products.

Johng-
My good friend had the same surgery in December. He said the pain relief was immediate and nearly absolute. He was only in the hospital overnight. He says he made the right decision and benefitted greatly from it.

I hope that offers you some encouragement.

Take care and good luck! We'll be thinking about you!

Best wishes John for a speedy recovery, anticipation is usually the worst part of a surgery. Hope you will be pain free after you heal.

Good luck john! The surgery isn't too bad except for the sore throat afterwards due to the endotracheal tube and some swelling. You will wear a collar for awhile for immobilization. If you've been in alot of pain before the surgery, your post op pain probably won't be worse than the pain you had. In a few days it will get better. Usually shots for the first post op night and then if you can take liquids they start you on pills the next day. Of all the spinal surgeries I've taken care of, the cervical fusion people do the best. You will be able to get up and have less immobility than the others. I think everyone is afraid before going to surgery, I know I always am. Its normal to fear the unknown. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. turcica

johng

i had the same surgery 2 months ago. they replaced my C5/C6 disk. i let them use cadaver bone since i didn't want to deal with the pain of disk replacement and hip bone being taken out at the same time. i actually recovered much faster than i thought i would. you just have to be really careful while you fuse. be sure to follow your doctor's recovery instructions. and on days when it rains. i swear i can feel the metal in my neck. i was also told they'll give me a laminated card to carry when i fly in case i set off the metal detector!

also wanted to wish you a speedy recovery!
