I have basically been in bed since the holidays,I mean I get up and do things as quickly as possible but standing over 5 min. right now is agony.I woke up this morning in worse pain than ever, sitting is very painful and it feels like it is on both sides.I thought it could only affect one side??? I am supposed to have an epidural but not until the 23rd.Just wondering if anyone else has this?????? WREN'

Yes Wren, I have the same problem, I completely understand, It is misery. I hope the epidurals help you out, I am waiting for my Mri appt and the ortho is pretty sure thats going to be my next move as well, from what I have read about these injections, it seems that people have very diferent reations to them, some get long term relief, some get very short term relief, and some get no relief at all, so I guess it is a Best if kept off the board shoot. I hope you end up on the end of the scale with long term relief. My thoughts are that anything is better then what I feel right now so I'm willing to give it a try.
Good Luck!

thanks tray....I hope you get some needed relief also...the vics are not even of much help right now nor is flexeril bextra or anything I have tried. It is so hard not to be able to do anything,I am one of those that has trouble sitting still.Yeah I have heard mixed reactions on the epidurals but I guess you have to give it a try if nothing else is working. It was just weird to have this pain switching all of a sudden to both sides! Well just praying for spring and trying to hang in there! Thank God for my laptop and remote!!!!!!!!! Take Care and get better! WREN'

I, too, suffer the same pain. For almost a year, the pain radiated down my left leg, sometimes hurting even the arch of my foot. So, I've been coping with that. Then, about 6 weeks ago, my right leg started hurting the same way, the sharp shooting pain all the way down. I didn't think that after so long, it would affect my right leg, but it did. I had one set of epidural injections, back in AUg and at the time, I thought it was a waste of time and money. I was scheduled for another set in Sept, but when I was in pre-op I had a bad reaction to the anti-nausea medication and it caused what I think was a panic attack. I decided to leave. And since I was very disappointed in my doctor's reaction to how I felt, I decided to get a new PM doc. Unfortunately it has taken untill next week to see him. Anyway, in hindsight, I do believe that first set of shots did help to alleviate the pain. About 6 weeks after, I noticed an increase in pain. I plan on continuing with the shots with my new doctor if he agrees. I hope your shots work for you.

hi 537 ! thanks for the post,is the anti nausea med a standard thing with these? Or was it just something you needed? DO they give you a sedative or anything beforehand? I am soooooooo dreading this but with the pain level I may have no choice but to give it a try......thanks again..Wren'

The reason I was given the anti-nausea med was because once I was in that hospital, years ago to have my gall bladder out, and when I woke up from anesthesia, I was quite sick to my stomach. I don't know, but since then I have had numerous procedures, and kids, with no tummy troubles. But, it was in my chart, so they felt it necessary to dose me up. That stuff was wicked. The first time I had my shots, it didn't affect me because I was not on the drip for that long. Doctor had me in and out real quick. But that second time, I was waiting for almost an hour and the drip was running really fast. I pretty much freaked out. The nurses told me that it was most likely an allergic reaction to Reglan. As far as sedating you before the procedure, my doctor did, about 15 minutes before the shots began. I was given a mix of midazolam and fentanyl. Nice cocktail. I was completely aware of everything, but relaxed. The procedure is really quick. It's a bit painful afterwards, at least for me, for a few days, but then it did start to get better. Just make sure you take it easy after. Be sure to tell your doctor you are really anxious about it and I'm sure he'll help you out. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Wren,
Depending on how the sciatic nerve is pinched, the pain can radiate down either leg. I have suffered with it for 1 year and it is NO fun...let me tell you. Codeine works best for me, but watch the tolerance.
God Bless,

I too am a person with this problem. In october i had the epidural nerve blocks and it helped for awhile but now it is back and affecting both legs. When i had mine they just numbed my back then gave me the shot and i was in recovery for about an hour.I wish i would of had something for the anxiety cuz i was panicking bad. Afterwards you do want to take it easy. The pm doctor i had does not give out narcotics so the ultram, and flexeril was all i had and for pain i thought the ultram didn't help me at all.I am in a situation now where i do not know what to do since it has came back because the shots are very expensive but the pain is awful too. Also i thought the doctor was not very understanding.I will look forward to hearing how everything goes with you on this situation and i do understand the pain issue. So sorry for your pain. I too suffer from sciatica that my dr. has found no cause for. It occurs about every 3 to 6 months and believe me I know how you are suffering! My pain was with any movement at all so I tried to be very still. It can effect both legs as the sciatic nerve splits from the spine and goes down both legs. (that's how my Dr. described it) I did get some vics for the pain but found the amount prescribed did not even touch the pain. I have had some releif with soma. Also alternating cold and warm packs on the effected area has helped me some. Fortunatly my symptoms seem to run their course in about a month. Good luck!
