Hi. Could someone tell me the difference between Hydro 7.5/750 as compared to proproxephene 10/650. My Dr. just switched the medication. Which is stronger? Thanks for any help.

From what I understand, Proproxephene is Darvocet. It is significantly less potent than Hydro. I found it to be next to useless for my pain.
Good luck,

7.5 is the mg amount of hydrocodone. 750 is the mg amount of apap. The thing to be concerned about is the amount of tylenol you take. Current thinking is that for short periods, 4000mg/day is the limit. If you use tylenol for long periods, than keep it under 2600mg/day. So, if you are a short term user than the limit would be about 5 1/3 pills. Long term would be about 3 1/2 pills per day.

Hydro 7.5/750 is definately stronger than proproxephene 10/650 (aka darvocet N-100) As for my past experience, darvocet is the first pain med I ever used, and it worked great back then. It worked great because it was my first pain med and there was no tolerance problem to worry about. Once I had used hydro though, darvocet never worked worth a darn for me ever again. For your pain free sake, I pray that your doc switched you *from* the darvocet and *to* the hydro! Good Luck!

Darvon for Pain relief. These are aValabale on an Iop
for bout $1 each . I find w/my limited income I find its worth it.

Does anyone know how many darvocetts it is safe to take at one time? I've heard that it's very easy to overdose on darvocett.

Propoxyphene Napsylate is less toxic than Propoxyphene Hydrochloride. Here is a cut and paste from Lilly's website:
The chronic ingestion of propoxyphene in doses exceeding 800 mg per day has caused toxic psychoses and convulsions. A single dose of 1200 mg of propoxyphene napsylate has caused convulsions and death.
Best to use it sparingly!

Hello. Just thought I'd mention there is no 10/650.
I believe it is 100/650. I'm speaking of Darvocet.
Darvocet is as a rule a weak analgesic about as potent as the acetimenophen it contains. You need to careful of your APAP intake (acetimenophen) when on this drug.
6 Darvocet = 3900mg of APAP.
The napsylate at 100mg is the approx equivalent of 65mg of the HCI. The only difference is weight. And the fact that Darvocet comes with APAP where Darvon is plain.
Propoxyphene is metabolized to norpropxyphene- it's been awhile since I read it, I'm stating on memory and may have misspelled the metabolite. The metabolite builds up in your system and can become a problem especially in elderly people.
Good Luck.
