Hi, I was recently prescribed Vicodin HP 10/660, however I am concerned about the amount of acetaminophen that is in it, I have been reading that many people are taking vicodin 10/325 and was wondering how that manages pain compared to the vicodin HP? Any info would be greatly appreciated:)

Some people say the Acet. pushes the hydrocodone, and that's why the docs prescribe the higher APAP (among other reasons) but I get more relief and peace of mind from 10/325, personally. Acet. in quantaties of over 2 grams per day starts acting as a liver toxin, according to evolving standards.

can you break down the 2 grams into something more understandable for me? like how many 500's are in a gram?

2 grams are equivalent to 4 500mg. In other words there are 1000mg/ 1 gram.
Hope this helps.

Over 2 grams starts acting as a liver toxin??? That's anything over 4 500's?
Ok so are there any signs to look out for that would be "tell tale" that you are ingesting too much acet? I have been taking Vic ES for almost a year. Usually 5 per day.
Thanks~

For what it's worth, most hospital pharm policies attempt to limit APAP ingestion to 4grams/day.

I don't know that there are any "signs", but my doctor has me come in for a liver test every 6 months. It's really a blood test, but they test your liver enzymes.

There are some signs to look for, but are generally serious.
First would be an aching feeling where your liver rests, yellowing of the eyes and skin or either, and dark colored urine. It is extremely important to have your liver screened at least every 6 mos. To help with the proper functioning of your liver you might want to take "Milk Thistle" capsules. The liver is known as "The Great Detoxifier". Milk thistle can be purchased at GNC or your local grocery store. Other great "little liver helpers" are: vitamin B-Complex, garlic, lecithin, and Co Q-10.

Add NAC to that.
