Question about United refill
      #134629 - 02/05/04 08:06 PM

My boyfriend (I swear, I would say it was me if it was) ordered a refill from United this morning. It was due yesterday, so he didn't order early. He checked the UPS site about an hour ago and it didn't come up under the last name/zip reference. He checked the FedX site, but it didn't have any information. Does United send an email with a tracking #? I'm curious, too, because eventually I will have a refill coming up. Luckily, he's okay, he won't be running out, but it's nice to know when it's coming so he doesn't miss the delivery and have to drive down to the hub...

Thanks!

I just got a refill from United and never did receive a tracking # and it didn't work until the day before they shipped. I ended up calling just to make sure they received the order because I never got a confirmation email or anything.

I have never got a e-mail with a confirmation from them. I have always tracked my package using my last name in all caps and the shipping zipcode-- no spaces (SMITH12345). They only ship with UPS as far as I have seen.

FYI - Yawkaw3 posted a thread on this board yesterday titled United Tracking about United MISSING his refill:

https://drugbuyers.com/freeboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=usquestions&Number=134213&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#Post134635

United told him it was being filled and sent twice yesterday and they never shipped it. United uses UPS according to my records. I hope both these posts don't indicate United is having problems filling orders.....

Just as the earlier poster stated no tracking # from United. It is tracked by going to the UPS website and "track by reference". The website defaults to track by number, just go to the top otf the page and click on the track by reference folder. Once their type in caps the full last name with the zip code - no spaces. EX; SMITH11111. If the package is out for delivery it should track. Try this late as the UPS pickup at most busines0 is around 5:00 PM and by the time it is back at he hub and sorted and whatnnot it really dosent get scanned sometimes untill 7:00 pm or later. I've actually seen it show up around 8:00 PM. Hope this helps. From what I hear a number of OPs do this and I guess it cuts down on emails and makes it easy for them. Hope this helps and you're package shows up.
Best Regards,
Hoop

Btw people, I received my package from United. They still had no explanation for what happened the first time, but it did get shipped out yesterday so I could get it today (Friday), despite the snow in my area.

I suspect the displaced Yod'ers who are now using United slowed things down a bit- that's what also looks like is happening at TDI. My credit card went through and I had placed the request early enough in the morning- I think they were probably backed up and didn't get around to it.

Btw people, here's a tip for dealing with United: If you call back later in the afternoon (3:30-4:30) and they tell you it has been processed to be shipped unless someone called you, DON'T BELIEVE IT- that is a canned response, it means nothing.

My United tracking number (using the reference number trick) yesterday started showing up around 6:30 pm, whereas no tracking number at all was generated the first time around. I dunno- I like a pharmacy who sends you an actual tracking number- I really don't think it's that hard for them and it's not too much to ask. I know the reference number thing works, but it leaves you guessing if something goes wrong. I just have more peace of mind and think it's a lot more professional of the pharmacy when tehy email me a tracking number as soon as the label's been printed (like Apothesys and Bi-Wise do/did).

I think the problem with no tracking numbers is a time and cost saving measure on United's part. They service several OPs and have hundreds or thousands of order per day to deal with. Having done data entry myself at one time (through my job) I know how easy it is to transpose numbers, and the UPS ones are anything but short. Using the last name and zip trick is really useful (and I think United actually has that up on their site) and does save us from having heart attacks when a tracking number doesn't work.

I know we all like being able to track packages from departure to delivery, but with the sheer number of orders United has going out daily, it may not be cost effective....and then there is all those people calling whose number doesn't work because the tech put it in wrong. It may not be the best system to use, but I can see the sense in it.

UPS also offers a service I believe is called Quantum view if I'm not mistaken. It is directly tied to you're Regular UPS service (someone with a UPS account). It automatically sends an email to the receiver with tracking number when the package has been picked up by the driver, or reached the Hub, of that i'm not sure, It's great, it has a link so all you have to do is click on it and bingo , it automatically tracks you're package. Now I don't know if there are any additional costs for signing up for this service. I own my own business and some of my vendors use this as a way of letting me know the order shipped. I guess it cuts down on the time wasted on phone calls following up and expediting orders. Just a thought. But I think what D2003 said brought to light the very reason some of the ops look at the "track by reference" option. Pure cost savings. And is virtually error proof. And there is very little liklehood that a person would have the same name and zip code. So interference is less unlikely. D2003 you hit it on the head. These OP Pharms should be filling our scripts and not sending emails with tracking numbers. I mean most are very liberal in when you can order. Especially United. 23 days gives you plenty of time to get everthing together before you run out. Just my fooolish opinion. Sometimes I wonder why I even post anymore.
Best Regards,
Hoop

I do not mean this rude at all, but I do not see why there is so much worry over United's tracking system/reference number. As United CLEARLY explains in their refill section, the REFERENCE NUMBER is just as good, if not better, THAN the TRACKING number!! It IS your tracking number-and you ALWAYS know what it will be. VERY EASY! Sometimes I have not had my package show up in the system until the next day after it was delivered-but that has also happened when I have a tracking number instead of a reference number. I LOVE reference numbers as I can check right away (and all night if I want) without hearing from UPS Quantum View. I really feel this issue is being made MUCH MUCH harder that it needs to be. I mean this in a way to make everyone feel more at ease with the reference number-it works and it is better than having to wait for a tracking number!
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

I talked to United 2 times today and they told me my package was filled and shipped via UPS today. I've checked the reference number using my last name/zip and nothing shows up. It is after 8pm EST. I am really hoping that they didn't lie to me and not ship it out after all.

update: 8:40pm EST, tracking number now works.

In the past, I noticed that United never sent me tracking numbers, but at around 8pm est to 8:30pm est, the package showed up by using last name and zip as reference number. This happened each and every time I used them last year, so I never had any trouble with tracking.

Just my experience if it helps anyone...
