Never been to Gran Canaria, but I have been to the Spainish mainland. Don't know what is available over the counter because I usually carried on me everything I needed, hence no need to pop into a pharmacy. Try http://www.gran-canaria-info.com/ and see what you can find there. Otherwise just google it and see what other information is available.

You can buy most items without an rx, but you have to give them names of items they can understand or can easily look-up. Brand names plus the manufacturer helps. Most pharmacists speak english. I was in Madrid and Casa Del Sol a few years ago. In Madrid there seems to be a Farmacia on every busy corner. Many of the stores are privately owned, so don't be discouraged if you get turned down from one, just try another.
