Sick to death of
      #133771 - 02/03/04 11:38 AM

Man,

My fiance went to a PM a few weeks ago. She went with her Mri which showed herniation of the L5-S1 and another herniation in the neck area(Iforget which part).

The PM dr which was female told her she can do injections for her, which she is awake for, and if that did not work, surgery.

She told her shen doesn't presribe narcotics, that she could only give her this weird muscle relaxer that was Best if kept off the board, and motrin.

So, needless to say, she is going to go elsewhere. But, a PM dr that does not give narcotics because they are "addictive" gimmie a break

This is a huge problem all around -- and that PM doc better come up with some pain meds for her patients or go out of business. Guess she figures it's better to go out of business than to come under the scrutiny of the mindless dorks at the DEA.

I completely empathize. I JUST had an MRI Monday morning which showed severe degenerative disc disorder not only at T7-T8 as we originally thought, but also all through T7-L1. That was quite a shock.

The PM specialist prescribed an NSAID and a referral to an orthopedic specialist.

I am tired of this back pain. I'm ALREADY (legitimately) dependent on opiates and I half wonder if this is why he didn't prescribe any narcotics.

I'm very frustrated with all of the BS going on. Now I have to wait another week to see this THIRD doctor. And I am not very hopeful of a good outcome from that doctor either.

This just sux!

I often beleive that pm md uses that as an excuses not to proscribe pain meds. Pm mds do and often give out meds. it may they dont think that u need narcotics.
it is unfair how they pick and choose.

My PM dr. is great. very compassionate, listens to you, and will even use your suggestions of what may help. Then they got these Phy. Asst. to help out the Dr. And the one I saw Dave was the biggest jerk I've ever met. Absolutely no compassion, told me once my pain was just getting worse and I was gonna have to live with it.Made me take a drug test which I had never had to do before. He treated people like addicts and he had no business working at a PM center. I wrote a letter to the head of PM and also to mu Dr. I saw there. Well next time I went in to pick up a pres. there was a memo hanging up that said as of Dec. 9 Dave *** was no longer with PM. I was so happy I could of jumped with joy! I truly hope it was my letter that got rid of him but I'm sure there were plenty of Pts. who complained about him.

i have heard that again and again, "I do not perscribe (as one primary told me ) "narcs") ok, come on, "narcs" ok so accross the board he does not perscribe narcs, so what does one do if experiencing severe pain, these doctors make me sick. They are all turning into "natural healers" and recommend Herbal remedies.! So i now take my medical needs to online physcians. I wish they would accept my insurance though! heheh. Anyway, thank God for online physicians. And they don't give out anything anyone wants either, i have also been turned down for a med and offered something else.

Let me guess, was that muscle relaxer Skelaxin??? They gave me a big (EXPENSIVE) bottle of those and they just as well have prescribed Pez.
I know, I'm in precisely the same boat. Herniated disc at L5-S1 and annular tear at S2-S3. My doctor looked at the MRI report and said, "see, the herniation isn't touching the nerve (I could have told HIM that) so it isn't causing your problem, it must be a muscle issue."
My response was, a pulled muscle that doesn't heal in a year??? Yeah right.

Just a little FYI. Some MD's loose their ability to prescribe narcotics if they have had a problem with them personally. They get yanked all kinda hush, hush ( going on a sebatical etc) for 6 months while they are in a rehab and can then return to their practice but cannot prescribe narcotics for a period of time according to the state they were licensed in. Don't know if this is the case in all situations but I know of some MD's this has happened too. turcica
