I have insurance and need xanax!!!!
      #126455 - 01/03/04 11:42 AM

I ordered xanax from clickdrugstore.com and paid $95 for 100 generic. I have GREAT insurance but have been to a few doctors and they want to give me paxil, zoloft and stuff like that. When I ask for for something like xanax, they say they won't prescribe it because it is too addictive!! blah blah,,,,, but so is paxil and I have heard horror stories of getting off paxil. Does anyone know of a pharmacy or doctor that would give me a prescription so I could use my insurance..........30 xanax with my insurance is like $6 and I have only been prescribed that once but the doctor refuses to give me refills even after I told him how much it helped me especially at night. Any comments or help is appreciated!!

I can't help you out with a place that will send you a paper script, as I'd hate for you to fill a BHP script and then you get busted. If you have a risk-taking personality, check out the feedback forums on BHPharmacy. Many pharmacist are on to him though, you've been warned.

What you can do with some OP's, is get a receipt with your meds. That receipt can be submitted to most insurance companies and you will get reimbursed. I know YOD gives a good receipt. We do have a few threads about this, if you do a search. The most recent one I remember had something to do with filing taxes, and deducting medical expenses.

Good luck, and btw- it's generally not a good idea (unless the doctor knows and trusts you) to asks for a controlled substance by name, that equates to telling them you are a drug-seeker and you want a fix, even if that's not really the case. I have been there, done that, and learned my lesson the hard way- let them make the diagnosis and treat you, just guide them. Btw, panic disorder is generally what people get Xanax for most easily- they now have Xanax XR, which only has to be taken once daily (it's time-released alprazolam) and you don't get those mini-anxiety attacks during the day between dosage fluctuations.

I think you need to find a new dr. A similar thing happened with me and my Neuro...he would only prescribe 5 at a time! I just happened to be seeing a new Gastro Dr. at the time. I told her about my situation and she said she would write the prescription.

Some Dr.s are very benzophobic and others aren't...

Thank you for your input. I am going to a new family doctor at this time and he put me on tofranil and ativan. I guess ativan is a benzo but it does not have the same effect on me as xanax. But I am trying it. I got another appointment with him Wednesday so hopefully something good will come of it?? If I tell him the ativan is not working maybe he will try something else. My luck is that he will try putting me on paxil and I have been there and done that and it made me SICK. Anyways........I'll keep ya'll posted and thank you all for the input!!

This is what I had to do...

I had to try Paxil, which made me feel sick immediately...
Then I had to try Lexapro, which just didn't work and made me tired.

THEN Dr.s were more willing to listen.

I simply said "Listen, I do not want an SSRI because I dont have Panic all the time. I feel that spot-treating it is the best method for me..."

I am sure others have had to do the same thing...you might have to as well

I'll let you all know how my appointment goes Wednesday?? I just don't understand...........I KNOW xanax is addictive but from past experiences and from seeing other people zoloft......paxil and prozac are much more addictive and they are a drug you MUST take everyday. I only need xanax when I feel an anxiety or panic attack coming on and sometimes to help me sleep. Why can't doctors understand that?? Who wants to be on a drug like paxil with all the side effects when not needed?

here's what I would do...

When you see your doctor tell him/her that you have tried a few SSRIs (Paxil, zoloft etc) but that they made you feel very "weird" or bugged out...or just plain sick.

Then say something like, I just need something to take WHEN I am about to have an attack. I dont want something that I have to take all the time, because the side-effects interfere with my life too much.

Then see if he/she sugests anything...then if the dr. doesn't say "xanax" you could try asking for it.

This is just my advice. I have been in the exact same situation, so I know your pain/frustration.

P.S. I dont have any experience with Ativan, but Xanax is pretty standard for Panic attacks. They may however try to give you Xanax XR (extended release)...Which I don't care for, because it lasts a long time (again...like you I need something quick...that doesn't last long).

Great post..do not walk out of the office untill you get your meds....if you need them then you deserve them. If you have symptoms and others don't work then that is that..
hum...boobetty..good luck to you and be strong...

Just my .05 (inflation )
Zanax is extremely addictive. When it comes time to come off of it, you can have MORE panic attacks than you EVER bargained for. The reason I know this is I had a friend who thought it was harmeless. Well she learned the hard way. It took her almost a year to come off of it and it was wayyyyyyyyy harder than she ever bargained for.
There is even a book, program that you have to follow to you don't die while withdrawaling from Zanax, or any other fast acting anxiety medication.
I know, I know, this isn't the best place for this type of post. I just thought it was relavent to ANYONE taking Zanax, or planning to.
I have read a lot about it and have learned a lot. I figured if it would save one person the heartache, than this post, than it was worth it.
There is a comprehensive guide to coming off of it, although the name escapes me now. Although, sadly, some will become very familiar with it.
It was written by someone from Britain.
It is a great guide and has saved many from the rigors from dying.
I know Zanax, when taken properly can give normal life back to many who suffer from panic attacks. Just as I can not live without pain medication.
Although pain medication withdrawals, can not take your life such as the adbrupt discontinuation of anxiety medication.
This is not a warning of any kind, just a personal account of the rigors of anxiety medication. Because I lost that friend, and can't let go, since she lost her life...
I to take anxiety medication, although, I stick to a slower acting, longer lasting medication due to my mother passing away and lifes lessons I was tought.
I wish the best for you and hope your medication choices work for you.
Bobosan
PS I hope this comes out right, and doesn't come out wrong.

Thank you and I understand you are trying to help. Unlike other people, I do not want to abuse xanax, I want to use it because it helps me and I don't take it everyday. Maybe once a week, depends on what is happening in my life. Which is very complicated........I won't even go there. I have read the horror stories of coming off xanax but I was also put on paxil once and it was HELL...it made me sick and the side effects are aweful.......I tried zoloft same thing....had to taper off....blah blah...xanax is the only thing I have found that I can take when needed and not on an every day basis. I understand many people abuse it but I am not one of those people. Thanks for all the input!!

I know what you are talking about with the anti-depressants. My doc tried to put me on Zenaflexadine once. I pulled it up on the net and read many horror stories of coming off of it. So I stuck it in the closet in case I have so real bad depression that requires one month of anti-depressant medication.
I just wanted to pass along a little story so others, including yourself, know that you can die from withdrawals from short acting anti-anxiety medication.
If you do have to come offf of it, for others out there, a longer acting anti-anxeity med will help. OR search for the method I spoke of. I forgot the name. Although if you google for Zanax withdrawal you are bound to come up with it.
It is amazing the w/ds people have to go through for such things as anti-depressants. Let alone things we know have such consequeses such as opiates, or anxiety meds. In this day an age where we can't get relief from our own GP we are left on our own when it comes time to suspend such medication.
That is sad.....
Bobosan

It is very sad indeed!! I wish I could find one doctor to just sit and listen to me and not try to brush me out the door. I live in a small community so I have a family doctor and a gyno. Both are okay docs but I have not YET been to a doctor that would just listen to me!! So sad!!

Ya know these doctors something is wrong with them these days, if they make a drug that helps you they should give it to you, anyway, i also have great insurance but i don't have a problem getting xanex, i have a real problem getting hydro. anyway , if your insurance covers a psychotherapist, (they can perscribe) go to one, medical drs, don't want to perscribe anything anymore. I go once a month becasue i was having very severe panik attacks , i knew i was, i went in saying i was Not depressed i did not want an antidepressant! so try that, good luck. doctors just wantt to pass the buck these days, my husband had high bloood pressure a common thing that he shoudl have been able to get medication from primary care, but nooooo, he had to send my husband to a heart doctor! what the hell do we need primary cares for anymore? karen
