Who else has thoracic intravertabral disk disorder
      #133605 - 02/02/04 07:21 PM

My worthless ortho doc threw and continues to throw Medrol, Celebrex and Skelaxin at me for the condition and he said that's all he can do. The disk has to be fixed through the thoracic cavity, which is out of the question.

I also have a $1000 calendar year back cap on my current insurance policy, so I am an OP patient to get meds just to function because no one here in Central Texas wants to prescribe narcotics. So far, after two years, I am able to take the pills as prescribed, have not built a tolerance, and do two week holidays well for the most part. I went a little nuts and had some issues with overuse during a personal crisis a few years ago, but was able to put myself back on track. The holidays are hardest.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for a rare thoracic disk sufferer and would like to share experiences with some people.

When my Ortho doc discovered my thoracic disc herniation,T9 T10,through an MRI,he wouldn't touch a disc in that area and sent me to a neuro doc.The neuro doc had no problem prescribing the pain meds for me. Of course that was a few years ago and we all know ...times have changed. I still think a neuro doc is better suited for treating disc problems in the thoracic area.JMHO

Forgive my ignorance but what is thoracic disk disorder? Where does it cause pain at? I use to love Medrol pks. for my cervical disc problems. I felt like a new person on them. They were the best. Dr. wouldn't prescribe them often cause of damage they can cause. The last two times I've used them they didn't do a thing. I was so sad!

Jamming,

They are the group of disks between the cervical (neck) and lumbar (lower) disks and often involve mid-back pain and pinched nerves that can radiate through the arms. Very, very uncomforable and often excruciating. Lots of fellow ex-athletes and weight lifters have thoracic disk problems as a result of using bad form at times in their endeavors.

Hope that helps.
