Consultation Question
      #132267 - 01/27/04 10:33 PM

If this isn't the correct forum to post this, sorry in advance.

From reading all the posts it appears the only way to get hydrocodone from an OP is by a consultation with a doctor, and probably providing records, including picture ID.

I don't have a problem with any of these stipulations. But how closely must the records match the reason I'm requesting the medicine?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'how closely must they match' ??

It is a pretty black n white, cut n dried issue. If you are requesting a consultation for pain, based on a lumbar spinal problem, then your records should be a diagnosis of that exact lumbar spinal problem.... ?

The question is confusing to me.

The records would either be about the condition, or not, wouldn't they?

Exactamundo, zeuzjuz. I don't see much room for ambiguity as regards "how closely the records must match" the reason rivethead is requesting narcotic analgesics.

That's the whole point of records, to demonstrate medical need.

Your medical records must state your medical reason for needing treatment for the pain. They must show that you have been diagnosed and treated for that specific problem by your doctor in the recent past. If they are yourmedical records, and your problem is legitimate, then this would all be on there, so I suppose that I am somewhat confused by what you are asking.

Example: If you have been treated for headaches, or just have been to the doctor for an well-exam with no complaints, then you cannot do a consult for back pain and expect the doctor to prescribe treating medications when you do not have medical records stating that you do indeed have this medical condition.

rivethead~
Your med records must "match" your med request 100% for the reason you are requesting them.

The reason I asked was because I suffered a pretty bad sports injury to my shin last year. About the same time I developed problems with my knee on the same leg and had ACL surgery.

Both were quite painful, but most of the records I have are focused on the shin. But the knee has continued to be a problem. I travel quite a but and after sitting in a plane or car for a couple of hours I can hardly stand up.

I guess I'll go ahead and contact an OP.

Thanks for your help.

I'm sure if you explain to the doctor the very same thing you've explained here, your consult will run smoothly and everything will be just fine. What is requred is a legitimate need for medication for a documented condition and clear communication to the medical provider.

Get some record (even a page or two) documenting that you did have surgery, and that is the best records you could have. These will work with most anywhere likely, since they will know you have actually had a surgery for an acute and painul injury, had a painful surgery, and are (of course) very likely still in alot of pain. Should work fine.

Although a copy of a recent physical would help. Alot of OP's want something from the last 365 days.... So you could use , say, a 200 day old regular 'ol check-up report (they need your 'vitals' to prescribe analgesics or anxiety meds) - So if you sent one sheet of a physical, and then one sheet of the surgery report (that could be older than a year I think, so long as the physical was less than a year ago) - Actually, I wish I had thought of this around this time last year. I needed a current x-ray of my spine, so I went and got a new one. I could have used a recent physical exam form, in combo with the (older) x-rays, and probably been fine...Oh well. Anyway, hope this helps.... From the sounds of your painful condition, you should be ok with pretty much all OP's out there.
