what are xanax bars?

i have gotton xanax a couple of times from my pcp however they were oval and different colors according to strength. what is a bar? why are they bars? sorry to sound stupid i just never heard of this. thanks for the info

OK, I couldn't resist. They ain't Snickers bars, honey!

It's just a different shape and a higher dose. I think they can be divided into thirds. I'm sure one of the many xanax connoisseurs on this board could provide more detail.

A Xanax bar is a white, rectangular, 2mg. dose of Alprazolam. It is scored so that it can be cut into 4 .5mg doses. Also known as ladders, because that's what they look like.
You can see pictures of these on Walgreens website in the Pharmacy section.

Xanax comes in strengths of 0.25, 0.50, 1.0 and 2.0 mg. Most 2mg tablets are ladder shaped, but some are yellow, some white, depending upon the manufacturer.
