Some of you WILL remember him, some of you won't.
But for those of us that "grew up" with him, he will be missed.

Capt Kangaroo was the BEST kids show ever! His show is the earliest that I can remember watching as a kid! Remember Mr. Green Jeans? And the little puppet rabbit with the glasses- what was his name?

It's funny how you have your earliest childhood memories. I was so sad when Mr. Rogers passed on, and now Captain Kangaroo too. You feel like part of your childhood goes with them. That's what's so great about memories. I know Mr Rogers is still on PBS, I wonder if someone will pick up and show our Captain too, That would be a wonderful tribute to a gentleman who gave so much joy to children-may he rest in peace

Same as what you all said. What a sad thing to hear. I work with little ones 4 days a week, and I thought of that when I walked through the door after work today and heard that.

Anyone here from the Midwest knows yesterday we lost another childhood icon, Ray Rayner. He was Bozo's sidekick Oliver O Oliver and ran a very popular morning kids show. I loved Captain Kangaroo but that Grandfather clock always gave me the creeps. Two in 2 days. What a shame.

Sorry to hear this news. I hadn't heard that theme song in a million years.
He seemed older to me than he really was. I remember when I found out his age later in life, I was surprised.
Was there a character named Crabby Appleton or am I confusing him with some other show? I'm going back to the very limit of my earliest memories.

Yep, Crabby Appleton was one of Tom's arch enemies.

I watched him every morning as a child. I loved that show, and it was such a great way to start the day. I also thought he was much older than he was. Does anyone else remember the silly rumor about Mr Green Jeans? I don't remember where it started but just hearing that he was Frank Zappas Dad!

Tomsgirl-I grew up in the Chicago area and watched Ray Raynor with my mom every morning before school. We loved his art projects. And you had to love Chelveston(sp?) the duck, Cuddly Duddly. How about the old
Hard Rock,Coco and Joe Christmas shows.
I only wish they would bring the old reruns out on DVD! Have a good weekend - Anew
ps i'm a tomsgirl also.
