I was soooo sick last week with what I thought was the flu. Still in pain I continued my regular dose of Hydro and through in an extra 1-2 Soma's a day. I do not use Soma on a regular basis, but continued to barf my guts out until I stopped taking the Soma on Sunday. Anyone have this problem combining the two?

One of the side effects of Soma can be nausea. Best advice, if you're going to be taking some Soma, do it on a full stomach. (At least a snack, with a little fat of some kind it in.) This usually prevents any nausea from developing. It DOES slow down the absorption rate of the med into your system, but that is a vast improvement over throwing it all back up again, and frequently having to take another dose.
As I take Soma regularly (as in 4 times a day), I'm well past the nausea side effect. But if I do find myself with an upset tummy before taking it, I eat something. It doesn't have to be a lot. Just a single slice of bread with butter generally does the trick for me. You might try eating a slice of bread with butter immediately after taking your Soma. Something about it seems to calm the stomach enough to allow the med into your system, without tossing your cookies almost right away.
Another helpful hint is to take your Soma with a full 8oz glass of water. I hear that also helps a lot of people who get nausea when they take Soma.
Hope this is of some assistance to you.

Hmm, that's quite odd because when people suffer sprains/strains, they are prescribed the combo of hydro/soma. Personally, I've never had any problems with soma making me ill. There is another muscle relaxer that I am highly allergic to, though. It's called Methocarbamol. Yep, I was deathly ill. I won't ever touch those things again. Yikes!
It could very well have been the flu creeping up on you and with the introduction of the soma, you mistook your symptoms for being something else. Talk with your doc about it.

Just had to add my 2 cents here.
I have been taking soma/hydro for the last few years. Hydro alone does not work at all for my pain. I started taking the soma long before my doctor put me on the hydro, so I have built up a tolerance to it. The label on my rx recommends taking it with food.
You could be allergic to it. We're all different. Soma has been a godsend to me. I'll tell you what tears me up - PARAFON FORTE DSC. If it wasn't against the law, I would be happy to give you mine. Maybe it would work for you.
Like lemongrass said, talk to your doc. Maybe you need a different muscle relaxer.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks all for the help. I really like the drug and has helped with my condition. I have not taken any since throwing up last week. I will try again this weekend when I am off work and take the two together. I hope I can keep it down.
