Flaming/Flame Wars
Flaming is reacting to someone's board posting or PM in a hostile manner by publicly chastising the person or bombarding the person with nasty posts or PM's. Flaming may occur to users that engage in behavior that violates what is considered proper board netiquette. A flame war occurs when two or more users flame each other in an escalating manner that threatens to continue unabated. If you notice a flame war developing just notify the moderator or adminitrator and let them handle it. Do not take part in flame wars. If you do you will be banned even if you did not start it :-)

What do you do when the hydro quits working?
      #131378 - 01/24/04 04:24 PM

I just don't know what to do. I've been on hydro for three years now and it just doesn't work anymore. Oxy is too expensive through IOP's so I guess I'm doomed. I've never had a good experience with doctors. We just don't get along. My insurance gets irked because I change doctors so often and I've given up on finding one I like.

Everybody builds up tolerance to hydrocodone and other opiates/opioids eventually, it's inevitable. You gradually need more of the med to get the same result.

This it the reason there is so much discussion of "Hydro Holidays" here on the boards. Many of us start to feel uncomfortable with the quantity of hydro and APAP we have to take. And the "holiday" can have the effect of getting the tolerance to drop back to a level where the medication is effective again.

Have you tried taking a break? If you are not familiar with how to manage a hydro holiday, do a search in All Forums and you should find plenty of threads on the subject, full of personal experiences and good advice.

Your other option would seem to be going on to a stronger analgesic like Oxycodone. And for that you need a doctor. You cannot find anything stronger than hydro from any reliable OP.

Freddie,
I'm so glad that PB said this:

If a site offers this med, you will more than likely be asked to send western union, money order, etc. These sites do not take credit cards so you will have no recourse when the meds don't arrive. Please be very wary of any site op/iop that claims to have this. I hate to see anyone lose their hard earned money.

PB gave you great advice about doing a search on hydro holidays. There is a TON of information out there on how to make the holiday more comfortable. If you think that you need more help with the holiday, or if you want to try to make this a long holiday, I suggest you look into suboxone. This med has literally been a lifesaver for many people. Here is the link to the SAMSHA website:

http://buprenorphine.samhsa.gov/bwns_locator/index.html

if you look thru this site - there is an icon "doctor locator" that will give you a list of docs in your state that can provide this. To get more info on suboxone, you can do a search about it here on DB - it's generated alot of discussion recently.

I also know that temgesic (the IOP version of suboxone - though MUCH weaker than what is prescribed in the US) can be very helpful for holidays. It is reasonably priced and I know that several of the better iops carry it. Good luck! If you have any questions about the suboxone or temgesic please feel free to pm me.

Yeah I second that about the suboxone (Buprenorphine). Although I have never used it (nor needed it), I have read and heard first hand that it is an amazing drug. There are many IOPs that sell this med (aka "Temgesic"). You can read more about it here

Call me nuts, but I get along much better with contugesic. Hydro was no longer cutting it for me. Given a choice between the two,I would take contugesic, hands down!

Janey,
What is contugesic? I've seen it mentioned in a couple of threads but have no idea what it actually is. Thanks!
