Paxil withdrawl or hydrocodone withdrawl?
I swear I felt like I was dying coming off paxil BUT I did not have bowel troubles.
I am thinking about going to an inpatient place for my hydro holiday since most people say it is almost hell. Preferably a methodone step down program so I can avoid most nasty withdrawl symptons. I don't want much, do I????
I can't seem to understand this burp info or find out where I can get my hands on any so that option seems unviable at the moment.
All I know is my tolerance is OUT OF CONTROL and I must do something.
Thanks for any insights anyone has.

Hydro w/d's are definitely worse-IF YOU WEAN OFF OF PAXIL ONLY!!!~ as I have gone thru BOTH Hydro & Paxil. The best thing to do is wean off of both of these, and allow me to suggest something that might make your holiday an easy one- **(I am completely off of Paxil & have been since January of this year, for General Anxiety )- what I take now is 1000mg of L-Tyrosine PLUS 100 mg Vitamin B6 daily- this WORKS!!! Also, for the Hydro wd's there is something called the "thomas recipe"- if you are interested, please PM
GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS
Peace,
Julz
** Note: Took me ONE MONTH to completely wean off Paxil- from 40mg/day

This is just my opinion, but as I have been on numerous anti-depressants over the last 30 years, coming off them is PURE H***. You should NEVER stop taking them cold turkey as you can DIE from that, I have never heard of antone dying from coming off hydro. I have been taking hydro for about 3 years, and its nothing to joke about (coming off them) but too just stop taking paxil can be deadly! Talk to your Dr and either have hime wean you down or try switching to a different ani-depressant. This is no joke, just ask your Dr.s Anglwinl

I'd have to say that psychiatric medications are , for me at least, MUCH MUCH scarier/worse to stop taking. Xanax, Paxil, and Buspar (I don't take any anti-depressants anymore - just meds for back pain) - But I have been on all of these and psychiatric meds were MUCH MUCH worse to stop than hydro. Made hydro holiday look like a walk in the park. Especially with xanax (more recently) -
Here is the only way I can put it:
It will depend on YOU - Do you fear prolonged (possibly 1-2 weeks) of SEVERE MENTAL ANGUSIH and rapidly changing blood pressure to the extent of think you really may die (and CAN, with xanax at least)-
Or do you fear, your pain returning (physical) - with some night sweats, anxiety, diahreea, and leg twitched which you KNOW will only last a couple days (of course the mental cravings go on MUCH longer , much!) - But I am saying with benzo's or Anti-Depressants, it's like you have no idea how long it's gonna last. It goes away, comes back, goes away, comes back until you feel you are insane! Literally!
To me, the fear of losing my mind and having a seizure, is much scarier than hydro withdrawal (returning pain and basically a bad case of the flu, and achey/twitchy muscles) -
PAIN, I am used to and can deal with it being elevated for a couple days.
MENTAL ANGUISH to me is a much scarier prospect, not to mention the seizure/increased panic attack frequency scare of coming off AD's or anti-anxiety's. All of my psychiatric drug w/d's have felt literally like he11 on earth with no chance of returning and no idea how long it would last. Like a 'bad trip' to relate it to something I did 15 years ago...
My vote is defitenely, I would take hydro w/d in a heartbeat!! after experienceing the w/d's from psych meds.

And Anglwink, I also agree with her on this very BASIC point:
AntiDepressant or AntiAnxiety med w/d CAN and DOES cause seizures and death when people try to do it cold turkey or alone (without a supervising doc or really knowledgable medical person) -
Opiate withdrawal sucks, but will not kill you and rarely does except in probably extreme cases of heroin withdrawal or other much stronger opioids than hydro.
I have had to take so many holidays I just pretend I have the flu (well the back pain coming back 10-fold is not fun, but I can deal with physical pain MUCH easier than emotional/psych trauma and panic - And whatever your psych disorder is will be multiplied SOOOO much in w/ding from psych meds. It's truly *scary*, whereas hydro w/d is yucky but you know you will be ok in 48 hours or so (with the physical 'scare' at least)

zeuzjuz, you couldn't have described my experiences any better! Coming off of Valium after 3-4 years of daily moderate use, I went through every symptom you described and so many more. Just when you think it's over, here it comes again. I must admit, many many years ago I had many experiences with LSD and I *swear* the first 12 days after stopping a 5 mg in the morning, 5 mg in the evening dosage, felt like a 12-day bad acid trip that wouldn't go away. Insomnia, blurry vision, lights were too bright, when people spoke it always sounded muted and mumbled, but if the phone suddenly rang it would make me jump out of my skin. And then the rebound depression that goes along with the multitude of physical symptoms like a 'fight-or-flight' system that is SO overdriven that you're shaking most of the time & have cold chills while sweating & burning up. I can fully empathise with what women go through when they say they have 'hot flashes' because I got them from benzo w/d. I don't know how long it takes before returning to a feeling of being 'normal' again, but after many months I often feel protracted benzodiazepine withdrawal symptoms . Hydro cold-turkey REALLY stinks and I have the deepest sympathy to anyone suffering that, but having gone through both more than once, I too would choose the opiate w/d because at least I have a vague time-table in my head that tells me that this physical suffering will end in a couple of weeks. And I don't have to worry about seizures...

My 2 cents - I take Effexor and Hydro. Going off Effexor for awhile was less painful but the symptoms lasted longer. Dizziness, nausea. The thing I hate about a hydro holiday is the creepy skin feeling. I can deal with the runs, headaches, etc. Neither one should be stopped cold turkey w/o tapering.

Paxil is far worse...in my opinon! Be careful Paxcil has to be slowley taken out of your system. I've been on both for a couple years and every doc I talked to told me that he would reccomend his patients to be taken off the medication slowly! Take care..

I don't know about the Paxil, but I am currently 10 days clean from Hydro. It has been H>>L to say the least. The guys on the board have been very supportive though. They directed me to search out holiday & there's a lot of good info there. Good luck & I wish you the best if you decide to do it.

Could you please send me the Thomas Recipe? I don't want to go into rehab . . . I'd rather do it on my own and you sound like you know what you're talking about.
Thank you so very much!

I take a hydro holiday every two months so I don't get too dependent on it. The muscle aches/spasms are the worst for me and take at least a week to go away. Also, I do believe once you get hospitalized for withdrawals you're classified as an opoid abuser and then it'll be really hard to get meds.

Twins,
Here is the link for the suboxone program. If you look thru the site you will find a doctor locator that will give you the list of all the docs that participate in your state. I have heard horrible things about methadone, including that it is the HARDEST med out there to get off of. EVERYTHING I've read about the suboxone is positive. Good luck with whatever you decide. You can pm me for more info if you would like to. Good luck.
