Fibro and Fatigue sufferers
      #130302 - 01/20/04 09:10 AM

I just finished posting this on the VIP board but wanted to post it here too because I found it so helpful. I just read a book called "From Fantigue to Fantstic" Excellent book lots of good advise. Went to their web site last night and read things for hours. I thought they had very good info. I've tried some of their suggstions- vit. and supplements but its too soon to tell if they're working.I just took 2- 200mg Provigil that my Dr. gave me as samples and they sure aren't working! So I'm off to bed for a few zzzz's before my daughter gets home from school. Nite-Nite. Tammy

Hi Jammin,
Thanks for the info. Can you pm (or post) the name of that website? Also, forgive my ignorance but what is provigil? I'm willing to try anything at this point! Is your fatigue caused by pain or from another condition? Thanks!

Hi Gottadoit, The web site is www.endfatigue.com. On both boards I have posted the stuff I started to take for energy but its too soon to tell if it works.I don't know what my lack of energy is from really. I have TMJ, herniated discs, and recently have been having increduble muscle pain especially in my legs, and I'm tired constantly. (I know thats a side effect from some of my meds.But its more intense now) I go to A rheumatologist Feb. 25 so hopefully I'll find something out then. I was recently diagnosed with epstein-barr virus so I'm sure thats part of the problem, but not all. Take care and PM me anytime.
PS Provigil is used for narcolepsy,its mildly stimulating but too exp. for me! My ins. won't cover.

How does Epstein-Barr affect you? This shows up in my blood work every time. I thought that it just meant that you had been infected with mono at some point in the past?

Jaydee, I don't really know how to answer your question because I am really confused about EBV too. From what I've read 90% of people over 40 have had EBV at some point and test pos. for it. Apparently when they got it it was mild and didn't even know they had it. And then it lays dormant in your body for years and most of the time doesn't cause any prob. But then sometimes it is reactivated and you become ill. It's kind of like most people carry the herpes virus and it is dormant, but then during periods of stress they will get cold sores.I went and got copies of my blood test and tried to figure them out. Final diagnosis was;
neg. for suseptabilty, pos. for acute phase, pos. for convalesense phase (means I am getting better) and pos. for chronic and reactivated phase. So I guess it was reactivated, the virus was present and made me sick but I am on the way to getting better and not worse. I don't doubt this has something to do with how bad I've been feeling but I don't believe it is the whole cause. I believe I have Fibromyalgia. I see Rhematologist next month so hopefully I will find something out. My primary care Dr. who did blood tests says get lots of rest, take vit. and it will run its course in a few months. I go back in 8wks for another blood test. My PM Dr. who I saw today doesn't agree I have fibro. thinks muscle pain is due to lower back disc prob. so he wants MRI done. So I'll have it done even though it will cost me a lot of money even with ins. but I don't think I have disc prob. in my lower back. He changed my pain med to Norcco's 1 every 4hrs as needed. and pres. a new MR Baclofen. I really don't like either pres. cause they just cause me even more fatigue and make me irratable. I was taking vicodin but it wasn't effective against pain anymore and I was taking far to many. Wow! Sorry this is such a long post to such a short question and I probably didn't make things any clearer about EBV. If you search "fibro" on either board I did post what vit. and supplements I was trying to help fight pain and fatigue. Don't know if this might be helpful to you. Tammy

Tammy, thanks for the info! Fibro is a fairly straightforward diagnosis, made by examination for trigger points on various parts of the body. There's not a blood test that I know of for it. You might want to try a long-acting opiod (Oxy-contin, MS-contin, etc.) for fibro pain, with the Norco's for break-through. I know that finding a good doc is tough, but well worth the effort. Good luck!
John
