Switching Hydro Brands?
      #130637 - 01/21/04 06:33 PM

Hey everybody -

I'v been getting generic Watsons all this time, but I recently had a Mallinkroft(same strength & conbination), and it was MUCH better, for me at least. It didn't make me queasy, it lasted longer, and just was better. I have one refill left from YOD, and I'm wondering if the pharmacy will allow me to switch to name-brand Vicodin (I know it costs a fortune though) for it, or if they carry another generic brand? I would think a pharmacy would only carry one generic brand, right? So can I switch brands, or am I stuck with Watsons until my next consult? Any info anybody has would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mrscoach,
The white pills that you got ("mallies") are also a generic brand. If they work better for you, why go with the extra expense of the vicodin? You can always call the pharmacy and ask which brand they carry (Mallies or watsons are the two most popular). Some of the pharmacies carry both (Woody's carries both - if they ever start filling again! ) and will allow you to request the generic you prefer. Your best bet is to call the pharmacy ahead of time and ask. BTW - from what I have read here, most people do NOT like the mallies. Personally I have noticed no difference at all. The mallies are also better for people that are sensitive to dyes.

Thanks! I do use Woody's (TDI for now though), so like you said, if they're up and running for my last refill, I'll ask them to use the Mallies. I've gotten to the point where I just don't like the Watson's side effects much at all. I knew that Mallie's were another generic, but didn't realize that anybody ever carried more than one generic brand.
And I have read that most people think the Mallie's are too weak - I find that they work just fine as far as pain control, they just don't make me feel sick to my stomach, like Watson's do.
Thanks again!

How interesting! I have gotten both Watson and Mallies, same strength, and the Watson seems to work better for me!
