Yesterday we deleted all PM's that were more than 30 days old
All PM's in the database that were older than 30 days were deleted.
That is done from time to time as per our rules.
Thanks you

Wow, thanks for clearing that up! As you probably noticed, mildly paranoid speculation as to exactly what happened to all the PM's has been running rampant!
Glad to know that all is well in PM-land.
Personally I'm glad mine are gone, I was just too lazy to delete them myself!

I just wanted to mention that I just looked through the Board Rules, as they appear via the scroll-down navigation menu, and I didn't see any mention of a PM-deletion policy.

Perhaps its an internal rule? In any case, I guess we know now so if anyone has any PMs that they'd like to keep for future reference, I'd suggest copying them to another part of your PC.
Thank you for your explanation, DB - although I wasn't personally worried I know many members were.

You are right.
It is not there but it is in our help, rules, and instructions forum.

The following is mentioned:
Quote:
NOTE: Private messages may not stay in the system forever. From time to time, to save space, the Administrators may purge old private messages. We reserve the right to delete all PM's older than 30 days without prior notice.
There is no way to have a rule for everything we do
We are sorry if some important PM's got lost. We needed to clean up and had no time to send a notice. Over 100 thousand PM's were deleted.
We just do what we think is best

Well, you know what would be helpful, DrugBuyers? If you notified everyone about the deletions prior to doing it so they have the option of saving them to their computers, responding, etc. I mean, you notify us of everything else under the sun! (yes, a painful day! more painful than usual)

A feature worth implementing would be the application of specificity to the automation of deleting PMs. For example, take from the PM rich, and let the PM poor keep what they have. By that, I mean letting someone with 30 (or so) PMs keep them regardless of age, and remove the old PMs from those with far more, applying the focus where it is truly needed. It would just be sad for someone with only 30 PMs to log in and find what little they had was entirely gone. I'm not saying those with 3,000 PMs "wouldn't" care, but I highly suspect they'd care far less about loosing excess than certain others would care about losing everything.

When you think it's beyond your comprehension, it probably just precedes it.

Oh, darn. 99,998 of those were mine and 2 of them were to DB about the VIP Chat board, which they so graciously and quickly made a link for. I'll just be so lost.........
