I recently changed my primary accounts and I received a message like the one with the above heading in my older, spam drenched account. To be more accurate, I received 2 of them, generated within 15 minutes of one another. Each contained a different crazy string of letters after it in the subject and the was an attachment I was supposed to run, alleging that my account would expire in 5 days if I didn't run it so they could collect "additional personal information from me."
Now, I'm pretty sure I didn't receive this at my other addy and all signs point to it being a scam. It "appeared" to have come from the paypal domain, but I know that putting a false domain name in a header must be Hacker 101. I went to paypal to see if there were any signs of this, as a new policy or whatever, and saw none. I forwarded the e-mails to the address they provide on the website for if you think you've received a bogus paypal e-mail.
I'm 99.9 percent sure that I did the right thing and that I recall the user agreement for PP stating that they would never contact me via e-mail for this sort of thing, but can someone confirm and ease my mind?
BTW, I'm nowhere near my transfer limit, so it can't be that they need me to become "verified."
Thanks.

I have received a few of these and they look official with the Pay Pal headers, but beware this is a scam. I looked over the form and one I received asked for my ss# DL# Checking account# and Pin # as well as mothers maiden name. Otherwise my PayPal account would be canceled. I hope nobody fell for this scam.

I got a reply. . . as well as several more similar spams.
This is a hoax that's been circulating and the attachment is a virus. The reply from paypal didn't give any details on the virus, but it it did advise that, if it had been opened, one should run recent anti-virus software to get rid of it. Just a heads up for anyone who may have opened the attachment.

Paypal sent a LEGITIMATE email refuting these identity thieves trying to hijack your personal info.
Basic rule of thumb, NOBODY asks for updated personal info by email. If they do, you did the right thing and went directly to the source without passing "Go"...

More to the point if this helps. NO SITE EVER SOLICITS FINANCIAL INFORMATION ABOUT CHECKING OR CREDIT CARD INFO. THEY DON'T INITIATE IT NOR DO THEY EVER "FOLLOW-UP" IN ANYWAY! These people are trying to steal your financial information and BREAK YOU! If EVER approached by any entity online reqesting any sesitive financial info IT IS A SCAM! Please don't let the theives hurt you!

I just got one supposedly from Citibank. The dead giveaway was the atrocious spelling within the email text! The author couldn't even spell CITIBANK porperly!
And my credit cards NEVER solicit information by email--EVER!

I've gotten three of those in the past two days.
They are just out to get your financial info, to take everything you've got (money wise).
