Hello all. I hope everyone had a wonderful pain-free holiday. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me.
I have started to suffer with really bad low back pain, hip pain, and pain down my legs. This all began when I fell down the stairs 2 years ago. At that time, the doc began me in PT and I did get some relief from it. The bad pain came back almost a year ago. I had to quit my job due to the constant pain. I went back to the doc and they prescribed me flexeril. That did nothing. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore...wasn't sleeping at night, and went into my doc's and demanded a MRI. I just got the results back. I have Spondylolithesis grade 3 on L5-S1, spondylosis through out, bulging discs through out, osteoarthritis throughout, and I have an "opening" in the center of my spine (haven't figured that one out yet). I also have sciatica. She rx'd me motrin and sent me on my marry way! Motrin?? I eat Advil like candy and also aleve! I told her I was already taking these meds and she said well, this is all I can do for you! I have ordered some soma online thinking that would help me, but it didn't. I have also ordered hydro several months back when tropicalrx was up and running. The hydro did help take the top off the pain and I was able to actually walk on my treadmil. I have recently got some Ultram and it hasn't helped at all. My question is what would be some other medication that may help with this kind of pain? I am willing to take horse poop if I knew I would get some relief! LOL We are in the process of moving to the west coast (next week) and I really need some relief. Any suggestions would be great!

sorry to hear about your pain and undertreatment, thats excactly the reason so many have to use ops!!!
i really dont have any suggestions except hopefully once you get moved youll be able to find a more compassionate
doctor!!!
im not sure how to go about finding one, but maybe someone
from that area can help you find a good doc.

I find that the only thing that relieves my pain is hydro; if you are moving I would recommend placing an order with an op quickly, so you can get some meds before you go; if you call MVW, they will give you a consult same day (after you fax id and records) and if it's early enough in the day you will have your meds next day; on another note, isn't it almost offensive when a doc prescribes you motrin?!! It makes me so mad, like I can't get motrin anywhere! thanks for nothing buddy!

I feel for you - Same story here only caused by an atv running over me in 97 and trying everything - PT, Most variations of mild pain pills - Ultram/ultracet, darvocet, etc. Finally. when I couldn't enjoy my honeymoon for the pain in 02 and doc would prescribe any more epidurals (some decent relief but not fully) I had the fusion done...ARGH I was doing pretty good - I could walk without any pain - went to the mall for the first time in 4 years, 5 months after the fact, and then...I lifted something I shouldn't have and now have a screw partially out and am facing nerve blocks. Doc give ultracet 1-2 per DAY, which doesn't touch the pain and the PM said to continue it...Hydro barely takes the edge off enough that I feel like working at my computer and maybe can enjoy my husband - not often though - and I am ready to kill....
I recommend that you go straight to a spine specialist either ortho or neuro. While they may be less likely to prescribe (mine's excuse wad not wanting to develop a tolerance prior to surgery) they may be able to send you to the right people for some relief until you can find total relief.

Really. Get a consult with an OP fast. I know PVM has just reopened and my bet is that they can get you in quick and you will have your meds the next day.
I feel for you. Your doctor is a dope. I'd call the office and get a copy of your med records pronto. They are required by law to release them to you. I would also tell your doctor that you are going to take the records to a doctor who will treat your pain properly. Motrin? For that type of pain? What compassion. NOT.

Wow, such quick responses! Thank you all for taking the time out to post. It sure means a lot. I don't know how you all feel, but I sometimes feel like nobody understands the level of pain I endure each and every day. It's nice to know there are people out there who understand where I am coming from and care. Thanks again!
I don't think it will be a problem to get some medical records from my doc. I have enough documentation about my back problems and diagnosis to fax to OP.
Yeah, it was a slap in the face when the dr. gave me motrin. I did ask why she didn't want to prescribe me anything stronger. She said that I have had this pain for a long time and that she only gives out narcs to those in acute pain because it's for a short period of time. I do understand that reasoning but I am not asking for a morphine drip for goodness sakes! I did tell her that I couldn't go shopping for Christmas because my pain was so bad. I ended up ordering everything online. How sad is that??? She just brushed me under the rug! When we get to CA, I know that I will get a second opinion or even thrid if I have to. I know that some of my problems could be fixed with spinal fusion. Until then...I will have an OP help me out.
Thanks again everyone. You are all so helpful and caring. I am so glad I found this site!

You poor thing,
Sometimes that is what we feel like when we ask for help from our docs...a thing. Last week my hubby was prescribed ultracet for a broken rib. It was awfull. Be real sure about a fusion. I have some of your same problems and am scared to death of a neck fusion. Hydro from an op will help some. Add a little soma with it.
I did my christmas shopping online too. Chronic pain is terrible.
Good Luck,
Deb

Glad you are moving ...you should be able to find a good PM doc in California....also one thing concerned me..you said you were taking advil & aleve? ONLY take advil... OR aleve...they are both the same class of drug..NSAIDS (non-sterodial anti inflammatory drugs) and taking BOTH could kill your liver, not to mention what it does to your gastric tract...ok? And when you consider the spinal fusion, I would recommend an orthopaedic surgeon, not a neurosurgeon..They don't even TOUCH the spinal cord..what you want is someone who is intimately familiar with the anatomy & physiology of the spine...and that's the ortho's forte...good luck!

Wow, Mist! I know that you're angry with this doctor, but I don't even know you or her and I'm absolutely incensed! I'd love to have five minutes alone with this horrible woman to spew forth a bit of the misery to HER that she's given to YOU.
I'm so sorry about this. Not only did she NOT help your pain, but she made you feel like a criminal in the process and you didn't deserve that. None of us deserve the treatment we get (and don't get) from our doctors.
By all means an online pharmacy will help you. Moving is such a harried experience that it might be easier for you to go with an OP that will allow you to do a consultation before sending in your records (they usually require records before your first refill.) I know that NWW used to be one but with the problems they're having right now, I don't know that they'd be the best choice. I think FedXMeds will allow you to receive your first prescription before sending your records.
I wish you luck. Sounds like you deserve something good to happen right about now.

Fiver,
Oh no!! I just ordered a consult from NWW today. Gosh, I hope they can pull through for me before Thursday evening because we close on our house on Friday I really didn't know which OP to go with so I chose NWW because I couldn't get my medical records copied this week.
Well, I just hope it will work out. Do you think I should cancel my consult because I am cutting it short?
Yeah, my doc is a very much against giving narcs as you can see but I have to do what I have to do to have some relief here.
I know someone posted about the Advil/Aleve thing. I just wanted you to know that I don't take both at the same time. I may do motrin a week and then switch to aleve. Should have made myself clear on that one

Lots of people are having problems with NWW right now, I'd cancel and go with Fedexmeds myself.
