I called to my specialist for refills and asked about an alternative to the current NSAID I was getting, and more Lortab 10/500. The NSAID was not working as well as it used to (maybe a tolerence?) so I asked about Ultram.

He (Dr assistant) said NO! that is addicting and Dr ..... wont sign it, He like to stay with the non-addicting ones like Lortab and NSAIDS ........OK.

I know that some reports have said over very long use even Ultram can be addicting, but I dont think it is even in the ballpark as narcotic medications. So take your Lortab and quit complaining.

Hahaha. This is funny! But maybe not. I prefer Ultram over Lortabs any day. Not because they are more addictive (they are not!) but because they work much longer and because they don't make me excessively tired and sluggish.

Well that proves we are all different I can not take a Lortab after 7 pm or I will be staring at the ceiling most of the night. If you like Ultram better you are very lucky it is unscheduled in almost all states and is dirt cheap especially with IOP's.

Take Care- Z

That is funny about the Lortabs. However, you should be aware that Ultram IS an opioid, and in fact highly addictive. (Even more than Hydro for many)

I can state this from personal experience, but if you don't believe me, just do a search for other threads on ultram/tramadol. It's a funny drug, and has significantly different effects on different people.

I always thought Ultram is NON narcotic synthetic opiod reactor. It emulates as if a opiod was being used. That is why is non scheduled (ie ultram / tramadol) and can bought from most any US site that sells diet pills.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I am not in any way flaming anybody. I was just curious because I though it was funny what the Dr. assistant thought about the two medications. We all know about Hydro (C-III) and OXY(C-II) and what abuse can do. Maybe the joke was on me.

Interesting comment by Dr.! Ultram is to be watched for causing seizures. Every med has stuff you need to be aware of, of course. Reading my PDR it says plain as day that if you are taking an SSRI (prozac or similar) that the chance of seizures increases. Just FYI cause I NEVER would have thought that at all.
