In the insert that comes in the pakage it states 1/2 H2O. Does this mean that one have of the codein is imediate released and the other have is time released? Does anyone know?

The Codeisan that I have used is 30mg codeine phosphate, in tablet form, with no APAP, just plain old codeine. It is not time release.
(There is a 50mg codeine phosphate product called Perduretas that are time release. You can chew them up for faster action but they taste nasty).
I beleive you might have Codeisan syrup, which I have never used. I have no idea what the H20 means. If it's a syrup it's hard to see how it could be time release.

I've always been confused by this stuff. I got some from Biotran a while back, white round tablets in a blister pack. My understand is it's like 30% or so codeine and I think ibuprofen? Lovepink could tell you for sure, I'm no good at codeine products at all - I just got it for emergencies if I run out of hydro.

codeisan is 30mg of pure codeine, and it is NOT time-released.

It sounds as if you may have the effervesent form of codeine.
Especially with the mention of the "H2O"

Efffbeee I had no idea, I was sure it was mixed with ibuprofen. Good to know and thanks!

I tend to concur with bhamdave about your med being effervescent...is the tab bigger than a normal tablet?
Kathy, I bet you were thinking of Nurofen Plus - that's the codeine & ibuprofen mixture.

I agree with Lovepink...that sounds like the "Alka-Seltzer" style codesian. It works exactly like Alka-Seltzer (and tastes just as gross!)
It is commonly sold this way in Europe.

That's a new one on me. Is it still called Codeisan? I've never seen it offered anywhere. I'll check bhamdave's Who Offers It codeine thread, but in cast I don't find it, do any of you know where to get this stuff?
I'm a big alka-seltzer fan, I often take a couple in the morning with my first Norco of the day. Plop plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is! I'd be very curous to try effervescent Codeisan.
Thanks.

PB, the only effervescent codeine med I currently have to refer to is "Cod-Efferalgan" with 30 mg. codeine & 500 mg. paracetamol, the equivalent of Tylenol 3. Its made by UPSAMEDICA, S.A.

The "alka seltzer" style codine containing products that I have used are:
Paracodol/Co-codamol (SAME THING) got this OTC in England) (only 8mgs codeine per effervescent tablet--they are about an inch in diameter and are scored--also contains APAP)
Generic Effervescent Codeine with APAP--in lieu of Tylenol 3's (30mgs per tablet, same size tab--looks just like an Alka Seltzer--and has 500mgs APAP, I think)
Dafalgan Eff. Codeine (got this in France) has 30mgs codeine and 500 APAP...same tablet style...
Efferalgan (also from France) 30mgs codeine/600 APAP
These are the only ones I have used or know of.
Hope that helps!

I found what you were refering to it's the formula of the tabs that you rec'd.
Example:
CODEINE-PHOSPHATE
FORMULA-C18H3.H3PO4.1 1/2 H2O
MELTING POINT- 220-35
SOLUABILITY
WATER-VERY SOLUBLE
ALCOHOL-SOLUBLE
ETHER-SOLUBLE
OTHER--CHLOROFORM--SOLUBLE

"If it's a syrup it's hard to see how it could be time release".potatoboy
Just for the record, there actually are slow release syrups out there. I have noticed a bottle of delsym (a cough suppressant) in my medicine cabinet that says 12 hour release. When you read the fine print it says dextromethorphanstyrex 5mg. equivalent to 30mg. dextromethorphan (styrex being the added part) the liquid feels sort of grainy like the dextrometh. in encapsulated in some form of edible plastic or magnesium(not quite sure what) type material, and the rest being sugar water, flavoring etc...... sorry a little off topic.
