Meds/ International Travel question?
      #126295 - 01/02/04 05:43 PM

I am going to Rio in a month and am wondering if it's safe to take my medication along? I know this seems like a dumb question, but I'll be gone for several weeks and will have to take a large ammount that is normally prescribed. I will have the proper presription bottles with my name of course, but I still am getting worried about taking hydro through customs. Will I have a problem? Should I take my medical records too?? I travel all the time, but haven't ever taken CIII meds in this ammount.. Any info or help would be great! =)

If you keep your medication in the ORIGINAL container that has your name - docs name -name of the med -etc. on it - it is perfectly legal to have it with you. One suggestion though - make sure you put it in your carry on - if your luggage gets lost at least you will still have your meds!

How much luggage are you bringing? I'm very small - I could probably fit into a suitcase! Rio for a couple of weeks?????? I'm so jealous! I hope that you have a blast! (In Rio - of course you will have a blast - what am I saying!)

as long as your name is on the container...you will be fine.

As I do consulting in many parts of the world, I travel with my meds overseas a lot. I have never once even been asked about my meds. I have had a bag opened and gone through but the last thing they're interested in at this time is my meds.

Good to hear guys/gals!.. Thanks for the input. I figured it would be ok, but since i would be taking a larger ammount than normal, because of the lenght in my stay there, I thought they might red flag me or something.. We'll I guess we'll see..

Yes RIO during Carneval!!! I think it should be a bit fun eh'!! =)

I've written about this a couple of times. Here is the link to the other thread about this issue:

Int'l Airline travel & meds

I am very well traveled internationally and have never had a problem--even carrying 3000mgs of methadone with me.

Thanks for the link and all the other posts. =) I would be traveling with ambien.. (10 meds), zoloft (10 meds) and now the big one.. hydro (120 meds).. I want to take my full prescription, because of potential plane delay's, ect, ect. I really would only need half if that, but I like to be on the safe side when it comes to being in another country for a long period of time. I guess if I have the prescription bottle with the correct ammount of meds that were RX'd, then I guess there's no problem. I noticed on the post with the link, you said you declared your meds... Does this mean I should declare my hydro at customs? And then if they call the doctor, it's an OP, so would this pose as a problem??

Like I said, I would never usually think twice about this situation, but for some reason I'm getting worried that they'll think my OP prescription falls in a grey market for C111 meds..

Anyway, I think the best thing to do is carry medical documentation and phone numbers to customer service reps from the OP, that could in turn, contact the OP pharmacy if need be.. I'll be ready.. I don't want to land in jail over there!.....

Tred-

Don't worry about it. There's no reason you can't take your whole prescription with you. You don't need to declare it. Just be sure to keep it in your carry-on luggage.

Hydrocodone will NOT raise brows. try that with as much methadone as I carry thru customs! At least with your meds they don't assume you might be a heroin addict carrying dope into another country!

Take care and have FUN!
