Tweaking on Codine
      #122106 - 12/11/03 12:26 PM

I found some codine that I had had prescribed to me about a year ago. Last night I had some back pain and decided to take 3 codine. About 20 mins passed and I felt little to no relief so I took 3 more. About 30 mins passed and my pupils looked like pin holes, I was thirsty as a camel, and I quite red in color. Why do you think this is ? Is there anything I can do to lessen the negative side effects of taking that much codine while still recieving the same relief ? Thank you for your response.

I'm sorry but I busted a gut I laughed so hard when I read your post. Do yourself a favor. DON'T OD on codiene. Just take 2 tablets every 4-6 hours as prescribed. 6 tablets in less than an hour just isn't a sensible thing to do.

hope this makes sense.

Voyager,

Surely this guys joking, right???? I mean, my Hydro doesn't kick in immediately either, but I don't choke down the whole bottle to get quicker relief. If you are serious, Knighthawk. Try breaking the tablet in half, sometimes it allows a quicker release, or maybe try them on an empty stomach, that sometimes helps (if you don't get sick) But if you can take 9 T-3's in an hour and not puke, I'm sure what I suggested won't hurt you, much....Try it.

Given what you took:

Less than an hour (most likely T3's).

180 mg codeine
360 mg codeine (if by chance it was T4's)
1950 mg aceteminophen

No wonder you were feeling "funky".

Suggestion take as directed, give med time to work.

I always give my meds at least an hour to see if they'll kick out or dent a migraine or whatever the problem is. I figured an hour is ample time. what do ya'll think? Some of my migraine med actually says an hour. Take 2, if pain is not better in an hour, take another one, wait an hour, etc. To a maximum of 5. Migraine sufferers know what med this is..........name that med. LOL, just kidding

I'm highly allergic to Migranal (the things in glass viles you snort up your nose). Sorry, it was Midrin or Amadrine by it's generic. Well, apparently more than one med has this routine. Perhaps the hour waiting time is standard then to give the meds time to work.

I have horrible migraines, but I think I will stay away from ANYTHING that I have to snort up my nose. It just doesn't seem right. I can see me snorting some migraine meds up my nose at work and trying to explain THAT to someone.

Codiene is weird - I can't take it at all. I used to use it all the time, Tylenol 3, for headaches, with no trouble. Then one day out of the blue, I took 2, and within half an hour developed horrible upper abdominal pain, exactly like gallstone pain, except that I've had my gallbladder removed. Naturally, I was in fear for my liver. It went away about an hour later. I tried the codiene thing again a few days later, same thing. I thought it was a bad batch, so I got my refill a few days later (threw away the old "bad batch" pills), and tried them, but it was the same thing.
Hydrocodone, no problem. Codeine, horrible, scary stomach pain. What up with that?
Anyway, be careful with that stuff!

Even though hydro is in theory a synthetic form of codeine you can have a reaction to one and not the other. If I take hydro I am fine, on codeine I hallucinate and itch.

When a Doc accidently Rx'd a cough syrup that contained codeine my mom did not mention that it was an ingredient. She thought it was all in my head, you see. So I went to work that night to deal Blackjack and Craps. All of a sudden on a BJ table the cards start dancing around the table and swirling in patterns. I thought I was going crazy. My mom has never doubted me since!

I don't give advice, because I don't feel qualified to do so. But I'll pass along something my dr. told me recently.
She made me promise to eat a little something before or after taking hydrocodone because she said it is designed to be partially absorbed in the small intestine. You need something to mix with it so this function will work. It couldn't hurt - I usually take a saltine. Flavia

Dude, Cut the dosage down or you could be taking the dirt nap. If you need fast relief and can stand to do it this way (tastes horrible) Take two, put them in your mouth and chew 2 to 3 times as to increase the surface area and dissolve quicker and chase with grape juice. Drink water afterwards and you should be fine. Don't try to eat six to eight in a one hour period.

Jo~
Tweaking means that your body is reacting in some way (usually negatively) to whatever drug you took- in this case, after reading the original post, I am in agreement with everyone else- this dude definitely took too much!!!
Lucky to have not ended up in the ER on this one, or worse yet, have taken a dirt nap, as previously posted by Drexall.

I have heard the term "tweaking" used in this sense too, but I think in drug culture, it refers to being high on some type of speed i.e. amphetamine, methamphetamine, etc.

Was it one of those "mental note to self: dirt nap" things?? I did that too, however every instance I can think of it's not appropriate. One of these days............ dirt nap, dirt nap, dirt nap.....haha
