I posted about a week ago regarding nausea from headaches. I left a message with my doctor asking for Compazine, however, I was wondering if anyone knew of anything OTC or herbal that worked as well or close to as well?

I know you'll laugh at this, but Peppermint Lifesavers always zap the nausea for me! Try it...

Motionsickness medicine is supposed to work good for nausea and vomitting. I know it will make you sleepy too, just like Compazine. I can't survive without my compazine supp. I'm sorry you have to, poor thing.
ps. I just noticed this is in the wrong forum. You might try reposting it in the Meds forum.

Compazine has always worked well for me, I don't know of anything that works as well as it does that is OTC. Dramamine (which is diphenhydrinate, a pro-drug of Benadryl) is ok, but most antihistamines do have a mild anti-emetic effect. If you have only slightly bad nausea (less than would normally warrant compazine), and don't want the compazine side effects, I'd suggest cola syrup. Most pharmacies sell it, just ask the pharmacist if he has it behind the counter (sometimes in mom-n-pops you will see it out on the shelf). It really does work, and good to keep in the house for when you don't need the full benefit of compazine.

Hi Yawk:
I used to work for a plastic surgeon (and his neurologist wife) who would stop on his way home from work and get coca-cola syrup for his kids when they were nauseated. He swore by the stuff...

Beetlenut,
You are correct, Peppermint is known to be an anti-nauseant, so it's not as far fetched as some people think. Another option (and for the record, I don't condone this)but THC, a chemical found in Marijuana is tops for nausea( so they say!) Phenergan is very similar to compazine but usually more effective. As for OTC products, Peppermint Altoids are awesome for upset stomachs as well.

Well
There's Marinol 10mg, which is good for nausea and vomiting (so strong that it's used for nausea caused by chemotherapy and also used in terminally ill cancer patients) and it's herbal in nature, you may wanna check it out. Kewl!!!

Zofran is another one used for chemo patients - it worked great for my mom, might want to check that out as well.
I have a lot of nausea, I have found that chewing the Gaviscon extra strength tablets helps tremendously, as does any type of antacid such as Zantac or the prescription Prevacid.
Best of luck!

Excellent suggestion Yawkaw! If you can't find the syrup, you can take a can of 7up (or any kind of decaffeinated soda) and pour it from one glass to another until it quits fizzing. Drink it and it will help your guts settle down. The best thing about it, is if you DO vomit, it is far better than bile!

Ginger works, it is all natural.
You might want to keep a supply of "Ginger Ale" on hand just for that purpose.
Phenergan also works great. Get it from :

I LOVE Zofran ODT (the quick dissolve tablet form). My doctor prescribes it for me with Zomig for my migraines. It works so wonderfully and fast! It is very expensive however, and my insurance does cover it for my use with migraines and migraine-nausea.

An email source that I've used successfully a number of times is and yes, they offer phenergan without a prescription at a very good price. In my experience, phenergan is much better than anything you can get over the counter and it doesn't leave me feeling jittery like compazine does. Seriously, you can't go wrong with trustrx.

I also concur that Marinol 10MG is great for nausea. Since it is a CIII, it isn't that hard to obtain. Most Dr.'s still think that it is a CII.
I'd stay as far away from compazine as possible. If you are desperate for nausea relief, promethazine and metoclopromide (Reglan) work great. Like stated, Zofran is the best but most $$. As for myself, since I cannot take Marinol daily; I never leave home without my promethazine. 25mg for nausea or 50 mg for NAUSEA!
There are many places that sell it domestically and you can have it tomorrow. (All of the beachrx "sister" sites have it for around $40. I recieved 90-50MG for $70).
Edited to add that MOST states have Marinol as a CIII. New York, North Carolina and D.C. are the exceptions that I know of it as a CII.

Another quick way to do that is to stir a metal fork in the glass. Takes the carbonation out in about 20 seconds. I like Sprite and/or Pepsi when I have an upset stomach.
Also, you could try Bonine or the newer Dramamine non-drowsy formula. Both contain meclizine which is straight anti-emetic. The first time I took the Bonine I was a little bit drowsy, but it never came back after that. Longs has a generic which runs about $11.00 for 100 tablets.
Good luck!
