A friend of mine had some once when his jaw was wired shut. I dont know about the exp. date, but it is basically just liquid form of hydrocodone. Maybe someone else can elaborate on the exp date of the opiates in hydro, all I know is he said it tastes nasty.

Personally, I would avoid temptation and destroy All meds after 365 days. Call your "friendly" pharmacist and see.

Other than the stuff possibly going rancid, if it's expired, it will have lost it's potency. You said that you found it in your refrigerator. Was it prescribed to you? If not, what is your purpose or intent for the stuff?

My pharmasist told me that all pain meds are good for 1 year after the exp. date, even the liquid....but..she could be wrong, hope that helps.

I had a bottle of codeine syrup once in my fridge that long. I ended up throwing it out because it had developed sediment on the bottom (which the pharmacist said was due to temperature fluctuation ---I had one of those fridges that froze stuff every once in awhile).
If it looks clear and does not have sediment in the bottom, it's probably just fine.
Who EVER throws out narcotics--beyond expiration or not??? Nobody I know! I've had TEN year old T-3's that worked just as well as the day they were new.
Try a small dose and see, but don't take it if it has broken down.

I'd just shake it up and put it back in the fridge. If it looks normal the next day, I would use it if needed. Keep in mind this is what I would do, and in no way recommend anything I say for anyone.

If the drug has aspirin (like Percodan, for example), don't take it. You should never take aspirin that is expired or smells very strongly of vinegar (it always smells a little like vinegar).
Otherwise, you're fine. I've taken Lortab that was over 4 years old, and I'm still here. All that happens is it gets weaker.
Please not I'm only talking about the mentioned drug, hydrocodone. Ask a pharmacist regarding other drugs, they would be the ones who would know.

When at my grandmothers house, I had forgotten my meds. She had Percoset that were 5 years old, and they worked just fine.

When I had a certain outpatient surgery, I was prescribed a lot of Lortab Elixir, which is a syrup with hydrocodone/APAP with a 5/500 mg ratio. Mine came in 240mL "flasks". The syrup has a fruit punch flavor and contains alcohol (why do they mix alcohol with APAP?). I forget how many mg's of hydro were in each mL of syrup, but the PDR will have this info.
I think the flask tended to last 2 or 3 days.
I really liked the stuff
Here is a link with a description of the syrup (scroll down a bit):
