Medical Neglect
      #122562 - 12/12/03 09:46 PM

Hi, I'm new here, but just wanted to tell you what I've found in our health care industry. To make a long story short, I developed R shoulder and arm pain. Seen by a ortho, MRI showed some disc 6&7 herniation. EMG showed carpal tunnel and radial nerve damage. Dr treated with opiates until I believe he felt he may be getting in too deep.? So he sends me to a pain specialist, and this was one of the worst exp. of my life. She told me I didn't have any pain!!! Next specialist??? actually gave me script for Lododerm patches! Unreal, why can't Dr. believe you have real pain? I am so fed up with healthcare and pain control. Need to take a stand, but unsure how to go about it at this time. Any siuggestions?

If you find out what to do let me know. I just had TMJ surgery 12-11-03. The doctor will only prescribe darvocet. I've been taking hydro for this condition for 3 years. Started with 5mg next year 7.5mg and have now this year got up to 10mg. Finally was able to get scheduled for surgery and explained to this new doctor that I was taking loracet 10mg for about 9 months and now that was not helping with the pain. After surgery and everything woke up I called and told them the darvocet was not helping. They called in ultram, like that was going to help. He said he will not prescribe narcotics. BTW the surgery he done did not correct anything. I've got to be admitted for inpatient surgery so he can go in and put my disc back in place. I guess I'll have to visit the street corner with a cigar box full of money to get anything that will help with the pain.LOL

I've had TMJ for 17 yrs. and have thought about surgery but after all the horror stories I've heard I don't think so. I'm really lucky that we have a good PM center in this area. I've tried just about everything and if it works it makes me too tired to function. You're right about Darvocet not helping with post-op pain. Just how stupid are some Drs. anyways. I know I've come across my share until I found this one. good-luck.

With the new things that they are able to do and not have to do(like wire your mouth shut for 12 weeks) it seems to be sucessful. I quess I'll find out when the actual surgery happens. The doctor said that all he has to do is make a small cut in front of my ear, go in and glue the disc back into place. Yea, they don't have to use wire or screws anymore. There is a e-poxy glue that should hold the disc between the jaw bones. Guess I'll find out, but I diffently will have something better than darvocet for the pain
