I think DHC 60 (didor continus, codicontin, contugesic 60 are its other names) is wonderful, although not everyone shares my opinion. The "Speedy codeine" description is misleading it is much more like a stimulating morphine derivative.

You can start off by taking one and see how it feels. And then chew another one a bit later. Remember chewing one releases a great deal of medication immediately; and when you swallow them it's time release and it takes a while to hit.

The correct maximum dosage daily is 240mg. That is, 120mg early and then 120mg 12 hours afterwards, as it is time-released. Realistically, the time release lasts about 8-10 hours.

There is much room for dosage alterations with this drug. One way I take it is to swallow one for time release and chew another. You have to get seasoned to it and be cautious as it is much more powerful than you've been probably led to believe. I really would not go above 4 of the 60mg tablets in a day.

If you are taking lortab or vicodin if you take one or two dhc early in the day with your regular med it will prolong it for about 8 hours, they will work synergistically.

I think it is a great medicine, although everyone reacts very individualistically to it so be careful. It is widely popular in europe, and the only versions of dhc here are immediate release ones, the one with the most being panlor-ss which is full of tylenol and caffeine and only has 32mg dhc.
