Earlier this week I began to realize the effects of an upper respiratory infection - sore throat, stuffy nose, and the host of generally miserable feelings associated with such illnesses. And then a funny thing happened to me - I ran out of hydrocodone. [My (former) OP kept insisting that my medication had been shipped when in fact it had not and I trusted them - even that little part about we're having trouble with sending out tracking numbers]. I was only without my medication for about 28-30 hours but within that short time I began to develop the flu like symptoms of withdrawal on top of the other symptoms. Now, although I have my hydro again I feel the infection is spreading down into my lungs. My PC doc has had me on an antibiotic since Tuesday. It seemed to be working fine until I ran out of hydro. Now, I wonder if going through withdrawal (even a short phase) can intensify an existing infection?

Don't think it will have an effect on the infections, but I wouldn't be surprised if you feel yucky. Side effects of w/d are flu-like, including sneezing, achiness, general malaise. But don't take a chance with your lungs. If you think the antibiotics aren't working see your PCP. YOu don't want to be faced w/ pneumonia. Just my 2 cents!

Not sure if it will intensify the infection, but it will surely make you feel alot worse. I went through withdrawl 3 times; not much fun. Now i'm carefull not to take hydro for more than 3 days in a row; then don't take anything for atleast 4 days. This way if i'm ever out of meds i won't have to go through that hell again. Good luck & feel better
