Friend having problems. new
      #120480 - 12/04/03 06:12 PM

I have a good friend that is taking Stadol nasal spray and also on Hyrdrocodone. Tell me if I am wrong but haven't I read that the two drugs don't mix well? Something about Stadol being an agonost or something like that and taking an opiate can throw you into immediate wd's. She is always very sick and I'm wondering if that is what is causing it.

I used to take Stadol NS and Fiorinal w/codeine at the same time and it just made me sleepy. I never felt any feelings of wd. How much of the Stadol is she taking? If you take too much, it can make you vomit. You can also a rebound "hangover" if you take too much.

She is taking whatever they perscribe for migraine headaches. I guess just one squirt in one nostril and that is all that she takes.

I'm not sure if it's true or not, but if in fact stadol is a full agonist to the same type receptor sites as hydrococone, instaead of an antagonist to those same sites, it probably won't do more than increase the power of the hydrocodone, or replace it on the receptor sites, depending on which one has a stronger afinity to the receptor. If stadol is a partial-antagonist then depending on it's power to overtake the hydrocodone at the site, it could make little difference for a moderately tolerant person but but possibly throw a high-tolerance person into w/ds to some degree. I could be wrong, it's 1 AM and long past my bedtime, but it might be worth considering. Mixing drugs is always a shakey idea if not done under the supervision of someone who really knows what they are talking about of course.

If she's just doing one every 4-6 hours, she should be fine. I would often overlap my fiorinal #3 with my Stadol. I don't know about hydro, cuz they never helped my migraines. Sorry I can't be of more help hon. Feel free to PM me if you need to.

Stadol is an agonist/antagonist and does bind to opiate receptors. This would only be a problem to combine the medications if the person using Stadol was concurrently DEPENDENT on an opiate agonist like morphine or codeine, etc.

If she's not physically dependent on opiates, there really isn't anything to be concerned with.
