      #120247 - 12/03/03 06:56 PM

I have been taking Soma for years and I think I have a well built emmunity for it and was thinking of trying something else like Zanaflex or Skelaxin. Flexeril does NOTHING for me. Does anyone has any thoughts or experience?

What exactly do you take it for?
I have lupus/fibro muscle pain and have tried both Skelaxin and Zanaflex in the past and could not tell I even took anything. According to some info I have here both these are also in the class of muscle meds that don't actually relax your muscles they just block the message so you think or feel like the muscles are relaxed. I am a firm believer in trying fix the problem if possible, and a muscle relaxer that does not really do that, just fakes it, would seem to be defeating the purpose.

Try a holiday, then go back to the soma if possible......I take it aswell and have had to dbl my dosage b4 taking some time off ,4-5 days if you can stand it........It seemed to work for me......Keep some ultram and maybe and anti-diaretic on hand just in case......and good luck.

Those others you mentioned are for Best if kept off the board......Soma is by far te best relaxant(IMHO).

My pain doctor gave my zanaflex, and it knocks me out. His nurse told me not to take it until I am in bed. When I first started taking it, I got up to use the let my dogs out to go potty and broke my toe. I didn't realize it until the next day. I do take 8 mg at night.

I have deteriorating discs lumbar 3-5 and reverse cervical lordosis due to soft tissue damage and muscle spasms and discodenic spondylosis. Also I had necrotizing Fasciitis(flesh eating bacteria) of the abdomen and had nine debridements which exacerbates the loss of intergity and increases the pain.

If Flexeril does nothing for you, which it does nothing for me either, then you probably will not like Skelaxin. It didn't work for me either. Robaxin worked OK, but honestly Soma was the best.

I've tried Soma,Norflex,Robaxin and recently went with Zanaflex, my opinion is that if you can find a low price supplier of Zanaflex give it a try. Something else you may want to consider is a small dose of Amitriptyline with again a small dose of Flexeril. Perhaps 25mg Amitriptyline with 5mg of Flexeril. This combo did not give immediate relief but after 3 days of a 25mg/5mg omce in the morning and then at night things improved. I find that to use any of them no more than 30 days helps also. There seems to be a tolerence issue. I'm not a doctor, I'm just relaying my experiences. 10mg of Zanaflex twice a day is currently helping quite a bit. Good luck to you whatever yoy decide.
