L-Tyrosine questions new
      #120263 - 12/03/03 07:45 PM

I've read posts about this supplement in several different threads and was hoping that someone could help me by answering a couple of questions?

From what I've read, I'm assuming (I know how dangerous that can be! ) that it is to help increase/restore a person's energy level. Is that accurate? I was hoping that someone who has actually taken this could tell me what their personal experience was and tell me if it really does work. There is so much about vitamins and supplements that I know is true - but even more that is just bs. I don't want to take something that is no more than a placebo!

Also, can someone tell me where I can find this supplement? I live in a fairly rural area and there are no health food stores nearby. I can find a GNC at one of the malls if they have it. I have checked all the pharmacies (some "mom and pop" and some chains like Rite Aid and Eckerds) and none of them have it. I have also looked in the vitamin section at Walmart with no luck at all.

One more question - if it is worth trying - what is the dosing level? The most common that I have read is 1000mg - is that right?
Thanks in advance!

gottadoit~
I take (daily) 1000mg L-Tyrosine PLUS 100mg Vitamin B6 along with it- I was told that the B6 works together & better with the L-Tyrosine. Also, I take it in the morning when I wake up- these are Vitamin/Supplements best taken on an EMPTY stomach. As far as energy level goes, I am hyper to begin with, so can't really answer that, BUT I do know this- the L-Tyrosine works on your seratonin levels; it is a holistic approach to Benzo's, without the high, without the addiction, without the "Benzo-Head" feeling. I purchase mine at the local Rite Aid, the brand I buy is GNC. Again, I swear by it- I've been "Paxil-free" for nearly a year now with no desire to go back on it. For more info on it, check out this link http://www.healthandfitnessforums.com/ltyrosine.html

Good luck & God bless,

Julz

I know you can buy it almost anywhere but it is a powerful supplement. It works on your Thyroid to produce more hormone. It can make you hyper and if you are alread hyperthyroid it will make it worse. Be careful and start with low doses and increase gradually. Julz this may be your problem. Too much thyroid hormone.

Auntie~

I've had my thyroid checked, checked & checked again- it is fine. You see, I have been to my PCP countless times, OBGYN's galore, & 2 infertility specialists- none of these could diagnose my problem; noone could tell me, "Julz, THIS is why you miscarry each time." I've had so much blood taken for tests, I probably have rejuvenated my entire body's worth by now. This is why I hesitate to see these Dr's in such a rush...
I do thank you kindly for your concern, though. That alone makes me feel a little better.
